Calorie Conscious Diet Useful Tips

  • Try and plan what you eat. this way you will be prepared for what you have to eat and not end up eating anything unhygienic and high in calories.

  • Don't overcook food; in particular, eat vegetables raw whenever possible.

  • Dried fruit and nuts can be a good substitute for chocolates; they are not necessarily lower in calories but are much better for you, providing natural sweetness as well as extra roughage.

  • Avoid fried foods as far as possible.

  • Use non stick cookware for cooking purposes which facilitates better cooking with very little oil.

  • Avoid red meats. Instead go for white meat in the form of chicken.

  • Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably raw or very briefly cooked.

  • Cut out most refined flour and replace with whole grains. Whole wheat bread is especially recommended and two slices a day is a healthy addition to any diet, whether slimming or not.

  • Cut out refined sugar

  • Eat less salt

  • Drink plenty of water. Watch intake of tea, coffee, aerated drinks, alcohol etc

  • Balance food intake over the day.

  • Enjoy your food. Don't become too obsessive about vitamins, minerals and calories- simply beware of how much better you feel on a healthy diet.

Note:  If your present habits are way off the ones listed above, be realistic. Do not expect to change everything overnight. Give yourself a month or so to relinquish bad habits, adopt better ones- and to loose some weight if necessary. Once you have overhauled your diet, make out a food diary and check progress by comparing the following:

Useful tip: It is true that once the weight is reduced and brought down to the desirable level, food intake must be slightly increased. But see that the intake is not too much to start increasing the weight once again. To ensure stability in the weight, make it a practice to weigh yourself once a week. It is essential that you weigh yourself in the same type of clothes each time.
