Your face might get noticed first but your hands get the maximum exposure. Besides harsh sun and chaffing winds they are in direct contact with drying elements like detergents, hot water etc. the result: hands look years older than the rest of you.
Why hands age so fast?
The fragile structure of your hands makes the skin especially vulnerable to aging, but you can slow the process. The skin on the backs of your hands has few oil glands so it shrivels and chaps easily upon exposure especially around the joints. Protect skin with gloves in winters and use moisturizer and sunscreen all year round.
Why does skin on the hands sag?
Thinning bones and shrinking fat cells cause skin to sag. Keep bones strong with calcium supplements. Also moderate exercise will pump blood and it's nutrients back into hands and feet. Production of collagen and elastin- proteins that make skin supple also slows with age. Oral vitamin C protects these component.

Q. I am 19. I am fair but the skin of my legs and arms are dark. Why is it so ? Please suggest a solution.
A.This is the problem with most of us as because we tend to spend more time on our face rather then our limbs and neglect them. So now the solution is , massage your body with a coconut oil followed by using an exfoliating body scrub. This will lighten the skin as well as make it glow.
Q. I always suffered from cracked heels. Earlier this was the case only in winters but now even in summer my feet cracks. What should I do?
A. To tackle the problem have a regular pedicure at least once every ten days. Use pumice stone daily while bathing as this would remove the dead skin. You can also make the foot pack of - oatmeal, powered almonds, lemon peel, fresh cream and gram flour. Massage this into the feet at night in rotating movement.
Q. My hands are always rough and dry and I just do not know how to take care of them. I am 20. Please help me to solve my problem.
-Meena Jain, Calcutta.
A. Take one tsp of fresh cream, one tsp of sugar, and half of lemon and massage into the hands until all the sugar granules melt completely. This should ideally be done every day for 2 to 3 weeks for effective results. Actually we women use our hands all the time and wash them frequently which makes the skin dry. Alternatively keep a jar of honey in the kitchen and do massage a few drops into your hands and then wash it off. With this exercise, you will get fabulously soft hands. You can even use warm almond oil into your hands at night. With this little effort you could have beautiful hands which you would love to kiss.
Q. I have severe corns on my feet and on days when I have to walk a lot, they really hurt. I am 27 and my feet are really killing me. Please help me out.
Ananya Kar, Calcutta.
A. Corns are usually a result of ill- fitting footwear. So, change your footwear as this may be one of the reason. I am surprised that even though you are suffering from such a pain you have never visited a chiropodist. Do firstly visit a chiropodist and also start using corn pads on your feet as this helps soften them and eventually remove them completely. There are some good salons , which also helps to remove the corns with a good pedicure.
