Hair Care : Oily Hairs

Oily hair is very fine in texture. It is easily affected by pollution and needs to be shampooed and washed more often. But Washing your hair every day strips it of natural oils and leave it lifeless with unnecessary chemicals and residue. So find a shampoo that will be suitable for your hair type and wash every other day to let your hair and scalp produce and replenish their own oils. If you have oily hair, then try and keep it covered when going out in the sun. The cleaner your hair is the more it can seep into your glands and harder it is to get rid of. The best way to deal with your oily hair is to find out the cause of your problem and treat your hair accordingly. There are few tips below to get rid of your oily hair. These can be summed up as below:-

  • Always rinse your hair thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water, because soap residue can make oily hair worse

  • Use less conditioner to get rid of oily hair. Choose a light conditioner to use every other day, or just apply it to hair ends, where the nourishing is must. Always use conditioner in small amounts, less than a teaspoon.

  • Use a hot oil treatment directly on the scalp itself, gently massaging the oil into the scalp and then rinsing the oily hair thoroughly afterward
    The hair accumulates dirt very quickly. In addition, there is a build up of shampoo and conditioner . It alters the alkaline (pH) levels, making the hair oily and limp. Here is a quick rejuvenation application. Take a tablespoon of baking soda, add to it 4 tablespoons of cider vinegar. Rub this into your scalp, leave it on for 5-7 minutes and shampoo your hair. It comes out squeaky clean, vivacious and buoyant.

  • Be aware of your mental and emotional health and take time every day to wind down and relax. Regular exercise can also reduce stress levels and restore bodily health.

  • Diluted lemon juice can provide similar results to the vinegar rinse for oily hair with a much more pleasant scent

  • Take half cup water, add to this a teaspoonful of almond oil. Massage this into your hair half an hour prior to your bath. Shampoo and rinse off. Note, the massage is with oil and water emulsion. Do not use only the oil.

  • Oily hair is likely shiny enough, so avoid using hair gloss gel or shine hair care products on oily hair

  • For extremely oily hair, a vinegar rinse, comprised of one (1) part vinegar to four (4) parts water can help remove oil from your hair, but be sure to avoid using vinegar on the scalp

  • Take a cup of warm water and add three tablespoons of vinegar along with the juice of one lemon. Gently massage this mixture into your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash and rinse with water.

  • Mix equal parts of any cologne and water. Use cotton wool to rub this mixture into fine partings of the hair. This lifts grease of the roots. Wash hair as usual.

  • A healthy diet can restore balance to your hair and scalp's natural oils. Avoid excessively fatty and oily foods, as well as additives and preservatives. Heavy fats work their way into skin oils, causing overly oily skin and hair. Increase your intake of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fresh fruits and vegetables to restore natural, healthy levels of bodily oils.

  • If hair is very oily, do not use conditioner at all, or use conditioner only on the tips or ends of the hair

  • Don't brush oily hair frequently, because brushing oily hair can actually cause the scalp to produce more oil

  • Make a tea rinse by boiling tea leaves in water. Squeeze in the juice of one lime. Strain and keep aside. After a shampoo use this rinse. Leave it on for 20 minutes, wash off, rinse thoroughly.

  • Don't rub or scratch your scalp when you have oily hair, because stimulating the scalp like this can produce more oil

  • Grate one apple. Add to it half cup vinegar. Apply generously all over scalp and length of hair. Leave it on for 20 minutes, wash off, rinse thoroughly.

  • Rinse your hair thoroughly and use fewer styling products to reduce oil build-up. The build up of compounds from styling products and perspiration contributes to the problem of oily hair. Take extra time when washing your hair to scrub your scalp and rinse your hair thoroughly to eliminate excess oils.
