Though it was supposed to be a hush hush affair but when visitors poured in, Aamir obliged.

The actor cut the cake at his residence in Pali Hill here with six-year-old Manvi, who had come with her journalist mother. "I am looking forward to spending time with my family and mom. My kids will be coming anytime. No special celebration, just being with the family”, Aamir shared with the media.

Before cutting the cake, Aamir met his fans who had come with gifts and bouquets to wish him on his birthday.

"This year I am looking forward to spending lot more time with my family, with my children, my mom and Kiran. Professionally, I have three films up for release this year `Peepli Live`, `Delhi Belly` and `Dhobi Ghat`," he said.

"I have to learn a couple of things. I want to learn two languages. One is Marathi, which I can read and write but can`t speak and the other is Urdu, which I can speak but can`t read and write. I also want to learn swimming," Aamir said.

"I will also learn to cook from my aami. She is a brilliant cook," he added.

Asked what his wife Kiran gifted him on his birthday, he said: "Kiran has made a painting for me."

Aamir shared his experience of meeting Hollywood film director James Cameron in Delhi.

"It was wonderful experience to meet James. He is a wonderful person and a great filmmaker. I got the opportunity to meet him, know his thoughts...he is very down to earth. It was a great honour and privilege to talk to him," Aamir said.

Shiv Sena had demanded that the superstar apologise for his remarks favouring inclusion of Pakistani players in IPL and threatened to halt `MNIK`s release.

"I think Shah Rukh was absolutely right, he did not bow down to anyone. He was not wrong in his belief and did not apologise to anyone. I would like to believe that I would have stood up against the Thackerays if something like that would have happened to me," said Ranbir, who was a speaker at the India Today Conclave here.

The young actor had faced a similar situation with MNS and Raj Thackeray during the release of his film `Wake Up Sid` for using the word `Bombay` instead of `Mumbai` in the movie.

"We used the word `Bombay` in the film and the MNS party opposed that. But the film is fiction and this is a part of somebody`s vision. I so many times say Bombay and not Mumbai and because I`ve grown up with the word," he said adding that the the arm-twisting of artistes should stop.

Trouble aggravated between Aamir and Sanjeeda when they were approached to compete with each other for the second season of the dance show Zara Nach Ke Dikha and Aamir was reluctant to compete with his lady love.



A source said, “Aamir and Sanjeeda were approached for the same show, which has a group of boys competing with a group of girls. Unlike last season, this year will have eliminations. When Aamir learnt about the eliminations and realised that he and Sanjeeda would be pitted against each other, he told her that only one of them should participate. However, Sanjeeda flatly refused and they ended up having a tiff.”

This was just the beginning of ego clashes between the couple. “After both of them signed the contract for the show individually, problems only increased as a sense of competition erupted between Aamir and Sanjeeda. Consequently, interaction between the two is down to a minimum now,” added the source.

This isn’t the first couple to have serious issues cropping up in their relationship due to a sense of competition. In the earlier season, Gaurav Chopra had broken off with his longtime girlfriend Narayani Shastri and had started seeing Mouni Roy. Incidentally, Narayani and Mouni were co-participants in the show’s first season while Gaurav, of course, was one of the competitors from the boys’ side.

“Aamir fears that the quest for supremacy might become a hindrance in his and Sanjeeda’s longstanding relationship,” said the source.

Aamir Ali said, “It is my personal life and I would not like to say anything about it.” Sanjeeda Shaikh remained unavailable for comment.]]>

In the States, he shut himself off from the world and cut contact with people. He traveled alone, hired a car and drove around to indulge in some much needed soul searching. The blow was harsh, after all, Uday had also produced the film.

Having returned only five days ago, he still seems forlorn and in low spirits. The devastation over the debacle is written large over his face. Though he dropped in at Gauri Khan’s party for Akon early this week, a source from the industry says, “That was his first social visit after Pyaar Impossible hit the theatres and fell flat on its face. Though Yash Raj has been known to take flops in its stride, the Pyaar Impossible disaster was a bit too much for Uday. It must be noted that Priyanka charged a bomb to act with him, which only added salt to the wounds.”

"Traditionally, Indian films were viewed domestically and in the Indian subcontinent and then watched by a select expatriate audience," he said, adding due to a influx of foreign media here the world is waking up to Indian cinema.

“Kites is a metaphor in the film. Kites fly against the wind and not with it, stronger the wind blows, higher they fly,” adds Anurag Basu who penned the screenplay and directed the film.

Media reports said the actor will fly to the capital Sunday to rub shoulders with acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron and to discuss the future of cinema.


'Yes, I am going to be in Delhi for (a) conclave where I would be meeting Cameron,' said the actor.


Aamir did not say why he won't celebrate his birthday. But a source close to him said: 'He in any case doesn't believe in parties and celebrations for his birthday. Moreover, with his dad (noted filmmaker Tahir Hussain) passing away last month, he is keeping a very low profile.'


Incidentally, his colleague Shah Rukh Khan has teamed up with international rapper Akon in Mumbai to record a song.


With cinema in his blood, perfection in his attitude and known as the king of promotional strategies, Aamir managed to deliver several super hits since his first success 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (1988).

'I don't have any recipe (for success). Lot of us often forget that the business we are in by definition is basically selling stories... We have to be different each time. I have to reinvent myself... that's the demand of my job,' Aamir had earlier said.


'I am attracted to scripts that move me emotionally and when you have such stories to tell, it doesn't matter how unusual it is, people connect to it... I've no idea what audiences want. I only have an idea about what I want...,' he added.


Aamir is a winner of Padma Bhushan, the nation's third highest civilian honour.


Recently, the actor reportedly bagged the biggest endorsement deal by inking an agreement with new telecom entrant, UAE's Etisalat, for Rs.300-350 million for three years.


With so many feathers in his cap, the actor stands tall as an epitome of commercial cinema.
