Minimum Entry Requirements
Through Foundation Examination for 10+2 passed students/graduates, with less than specified marks.
Foundation Courses consists of ten months postal tution after registration. Foundation
course covers basic knowledge in accounting, mercantile law, mathematics and statistics, economics.
Registration for Foundation Course happens all through the year. The Foundation Examination is held in May and November. Approximate fee (Foundation) Rs 1,260 (verify with the institute).
Provisional registration possible if proof of passing is furnished within six months.
Option of oral coaching arrangement by regional councils of ICAI. Pass percentage : 50 per cent of total marks with minimum of 40 per cent marks in each chapter.
Graduates eligible to register directly (without going through the Foundation Course) as a
student of the CA course if :
a) 50 per cent Commerce graduate
B) Non-Commerce graduate with 60 per cent marks.
c) Other graduates with 55 per cent marks
Note: If you do not satisfy the above norms, then Foundation Course is the route to training as a CA.
ROUTE TO BECOME A CA
As a cA student, one as to register for Pratical and Theoretical Instructions. Compulsory practical training - three years including optional industrial training for nine to 12 months, during the last year. There is a close link maintained between the con-current three years of theoretical education and practical training in the CA course.
WHAT YOU STUDY IN A CA COURSE
Advanced accounting , management accounting, cost accounting, corporate laws. IT and sales tax laws, electronic data processing , management audition, direct and indirect taxes, systems analysis, quantative techniques, etc. While the intermediate level requires working knowledge, at the final stage, the student has to acquire expertise in most areas.
Mode of instruction is through a scheme of postal tution. Postal tution is the
supply of study material by the post for the various levels of the course. Oral coaching is alo
arranged at some centers (accredited) for the Foundation Course.
STAGES OF EXAMINATION
Intermediate (after 12 months of training) and Appear for Final Exam during last six months of training.
It requires approximately three years at least to become a CA, but you should be above
21 years , for membership of the institute. Total Fees : Rs 3,500 approximately (verify with institute).
Students of the CA course have to work in the office of a CA in practice or in firm of such CAs for the specified period. Two types of training opportunities : As an Articled Clerk, a trainee is attached to a CA in practice,for three years (against a stipend), not a suitable option for those who have to earn their living.An Audit Clerk has the option of earning a remuneration as a regular paid staff of the practising CAs.
As a CA , you could be involved in these areas of work .Accountancy - from simple book keeping to complex financial analysis.Auditing - among the most important functions of a CA where the specialised training, skill and judgement come into play.
Company work - formation, financial structure and liquidation of limited companies.
Investigation - to ascertain financial positions of business in connection with new issue of share capital,reconstruction and amalgamations etc.
Management consultancy - an invaluable role in utilising resources effectively.

Directorship (for senior CAs)
Share Valuation work
Regular employment possible in all types of business as well as in self employment.
