PSYCHIATRY

Eligibility : Required Educational Qualification

For choosing Psychiatry as a career option one needs to complete MBBS programme. The other alternatives are post-graduate course i.e. M.D. - Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry or a D.P.M. - Diploma in Psychiatry medicine. The students can also apply for Diploma of National Board Exam (DNB) conducted by The National Board of Examinations.

Required Aptitude

Patience , perseverance , interest in and understanding of human behavior, ability to listen, emotional stability, a genuine concern and sympathy towards the patients, with however, an objective approach towards their problems.

Remuneration

Psychiatrists are not paid much in the initial level. There remuneration is fixed by the Government sector and it ranges between Rs. 3000 - Rs. 5000 per month plus allowances. However, private practitioners can earn lot. They charge Rs.300 and above for an hour for counseling purpose.
