Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
2008
CLAT 2008 : Introduction
The date for the first common law admission test (CLAT) to seven leading law
universities in the country has been decided. At a meeting of the heads of
these universities on Thursday under the aegis of the University Grants
Commission (UGC), May 11, 2008, has been fixed as the date for CLAT.
Similar to the common aptitude test (for MBA), joint entrance exam (for IITs)
and AIPMT (for medical), aspiring lawyers will now have to take the two-hour
CLAT consisting of objective-type questions on English language, general
knowledge, basic mathematics, legal and logical reasoning.
Each of the seven universities will conduct the CLAT exam by rotation "The
common entrance exam will be a major reform in legal education. It may
ultimately lead to a strong network of law universities and encourage the
exchange of ideas and help improve the quality of legal education in the
country."....says Vice-chairman, UGC, Prof. Mool Chand Sharma
