INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT
Started in 1961 as an autonomous body with the active
collaboration of the government of India, government of Gujarat, and
industry, the institute saw an early period of collaboration with Harvard
Business School, which actually had a deep impact on the way teaching
-learning method evolved. A key feature of the institute is the involvement
of faculty in administering and running a large number of academic and non
academic activities at the b-school. But it's also characterized by a highly
active student body, which has a stake not just in academic excellence but
also in proving one's mettle in other organizational activities.
A thrust area of the institute is research, with a large number of projects
being commissioned and funded by national and international organizations
such as the Ford Foundation, UNO, World Bank, NCERT, Planning Commission,
Central And State ministries, and industrial agencies.

- Ahemdabad, like most other b-schools, goes for a two- stage selection
- The written stage is the Common Admission Test, popularly called
CAT, held in November, the announcement for which is done in July.
- This is
followed by personality assessment stage, which includes group discussion
and personal interview.
- Academic excellence, extracurricular activities and
work experience are also taken into consideration.
The fees payable by the PGP students of the 2009-2011 batch for their
first academic year (2009-2010) is approximately Rs.6,30,000/-
The fee for PGP-PMP excluding board, lodging and international attachment /
exchange, is about INR 12,90,000.
Designed by Louis Kahn, it's a campus sprawling over 67 acres with
minimalistic yet majestic brick buildings. the lush green campus is being
further extended by another 39 acres, to house an international management
and convention center, more classrooms and dorms.
At the moment there are 20 dormitories, each with independent, well equipped
and spacious rooms for 25 to 40 students. Separate housing is provided for
married students. there are at the moment six classrooms, all in the shape
of an amphitheatre, and five seminar rooms, in the teaching wing. More
capacity is being added to the institute.
Needless to say, the library and the infrastructure of the institute is
state-of-the art. The Vikram Sarabhai Library has close to 180,000 volumes,
600 current periodicals, 700 CDs and more than 2,000 working papers and
dissertations, besides possessing 3i network (information infrastructure
for institutions) to provide business, industry, environmental,
agricultural, and economic information to the users. When it comes to IT, the
entire campus is well connected, with high speed servers, 1,600 nodes, an
intranet facility via a dedicated lease line and a personal computer at the
disposal of each student.
