King George Royal Indian Military College, Bangalore was founded on 1st August 1946. The school was reorganised in September 1952 and the name shortened to King George's School with the motto "Play The Game." The cadets were being prepared for the senior Cambridge examination from 1952-1962. The name was changed to Military School, Bangalore in 1966 and it adopted the CBSE syllabus in 1967.

In 1952 the name was shortened to King George's School. The school cadets were appearing for Senior Cambridge Examination until 1962. In 1962 it got affiliation to ICSE and in 1966 it acquired its present name Military School Bangalore. In 1967 it adopted CBSE syllabus. Bangalore Military School is a Cat 'A' Establishment under the direct control of DGMT(MT-15). All instructions pertaining to finance, training, admission and recruitment are received directly from AHQ (MT-15). The school celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 07 Dec 1996. General Shankar Roy Choudhary, Chief of the Army Staff, was the Chief Guest. The Military School Bangalore is spread over an area of 68 acres. The school buildings are of pre independence vintage and demand extensive maintenance on a regular basis. During last two decades only few new buildings have come up namely, Cadets Mess, Assembly Hall, Six class rooms complex and residential accommodation for Administrative Officer, RMO and two Master Gazetted's. A case for new buildings for the school has already been initiated which may come up over a period of time. The aim of the school is to impart quality education to the boys to enable them to take the All India Secondary Examination and the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination of the CBSE New Delhi and as to facilitate their entry into the National Defence Academy, Khadakwala.

Boarding Facilities

The school has a total area of 74 acres of land. It has provision for 340 boarders; 87 per cent of the boarder vacancies are reserved for sons for military personnel and 13 per cent for the wards of civilians. It caters to a large number of boarders who are divided into 4 houses. Each house has its own dining hall. The school also has an eight bedded hospital and is authorized an RMO with two Nursing Assistants. The sons of JCOs and ORs are also provided with free clothing.

Extra Activities

The school provides facilities for football, volleyball, basket-ball, cricket, boxing, athletics, gymnastics and hockey in the school. The school also has a well equipped Gymnasium. Mountain bikes have been procured for adventure hikes. The school also has roller skates and the cadets are encouraged to participate in various other adventure activities organised by the school. The school also caters for Indoor Games. It provides training in karate too. The school has an Art Society, Nature Club and Photographic Club.

Lunch Facilities

The school also has a CSD canteen. At 14 00 hours the cadets and Faculty meet over lunch which is served in mess hall. Well balanced and nourishing meals are served to the cadets three times a day in addition to the tea breaks during which light refreshments are served.


Admission to this school is strictly on merit. 67% of the vacancies are filled by the boys of JCO’s / NCO’s of Indian Army and Air Force selected by Army Headquarters, New Delhi . Boys of Serving Officers / Civilians (20% and 13%) are admitted on the basis of an entrance test conducted by this school on 1st and 2nd May every year. Classes are from Class VI to XII. 15% of the boys of Serving Officers and Civilians in the school are awarded means-cum-merit Scholarships on the basis of common scholarship test conducted by the Army Headquarters. Only boys between the ages of 10 and 13 years on July 1 of the year of test are eligible to take the scholarship.
