Delhi College of Engineering is one of the premier colleges of Engineering education in India and has played unique and important role in the advancement of technical education. It was established in 1940, originally as Delhi Polytechnic and was under the direct control of Government of India. The college is presently under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi since 1963 and is affiliated to the University of Delhi since 1952. The efforts and expertise of DCE graduates have been major contributors in the planning and construction of India's infrastructure. DCE is an insitution which defines and continues to update methods of engineering and architecture in India. It provides its students with modern educational facilities while retaining traditional values, as well as using its strong industrial contacts to mold young, talented individuals who can compete in the global arena. The aim of DCE is to rank among leading universities globally. Consequently, DCE 's mission is to educate individuals to be competitive not only in India, but all over the world. Within an intensely competitive environment, the college has adopted a dynamic, global, high-quality, creative and communicative approach in education, as well as research and development. Keeping abreast with modern developments, DCE is constantly restructuring itself and renovating its physical infrastructure as well as its research and education facilities.


It has a rich collection of more than 65 thousand unique Titles,covering almost all areas of Engineering, Science & Technology and is open to all students & faculty members, from where they can borrow the required books as per rules. A large number of Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Standards, Reports, Proceedings, Abstracts & Indexes, Data Books, standards, (National & International) are available in the Library. Various CD-ROM database i.e. BIS, ASTM, EI-index etc. are being subscribed. Apart from these databases, library also has a good collection of books on CD-ROM and video recordings.

Hostel Facilities

DCE has 9 Boys and 3 Girls hostels in the campus that can accomodate around 1100 boys and 250 girls. The messing services are provided in four of the hostels. These are Sir Visversvaraya Hostel, Bhaskaracharya Hostel Sir C. V. Raman Hostel and Sister Nivediata Hostel. These cater to the requirements of all the students residing within the campus. Every hostel has its own common room and gymnasium. The hostels are connected to the campus via the campus wide wi-fi network.

The admission towards a full-time Bachelor of Engineering degree in Delhi College of Engineering and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology is through Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) conducted by the University of Delhi, and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Out of the total 570 seats, 85% are reserved for students who pass from high schools in the National Capital Territory of Delhi or Delhi region. The remaining 15% seats are for candidates from outside Delhi region and are admitted on the basis of All India merit Rank in AIEEE[5] 39 out of top 50 students who sought admission in CEE 2008 chose NSIT over Delhi College of Engineering.

Candidates seeking admission to the B.Tech programs must have passed 3-year Engineering Diploma and must be employed. Candidates are admitted on the basis of B. Tech. Entrance Examination.

Admission towards a Postgraduate degree at the Delhi College of Engineering is based on performance in the GATE qualifying exam, followed by an interview.
