The Faculty of Law was established in 1924 and the faculty was initially housed in the Prince's Pavilion in the Old Viceregal Lodge Grounds.The then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi,Dr.Hari Singh Gaur was its first Dean.It was only in 1963 that the faculty moved to its present location at the Chhatra Marg,University of Delhi, Delhi.


The library caters to the needs of all the students, research scholars and teachers of the Faculty.It has a rich collection of books, journals and periodicals. In addition, the Law Centre-I and Law Centre-II have their own libraries which are used mainly by the students and teachers of the concerned Law Centre.

Accomodation Facilities

Hostel facilities are available only for LL.M. 2 year course students. There are twelve hostels for male and female students who are pursuing full-time courses in the University. These are: Gwyer Hall, International Students House, Jubilee hall, Mansarovar Hostel, Post-Graduate Men's Hostel, University Hostel for Women, Meghdoot Hostel, D. S. Kothari, V. K. R. V. Rao Hostel, International Students House for Women, North East Students House and W.U.S. University Hostel.


Post Graduate Course
  • Master of Comparative Law (M.C.L.) : Two years course
  • LL.B. : Three year (Six-terms) full-time course
  • LL.M. : Two-year (Four Terms) course; Three year (Six Terms) course


  • Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) : Two years course
  • Ph.D. in Law : Minimum 2 years maximum 5 years


LLB Admissions Intake

  1. the intake in LLB first year course is 1500 (500 at the Campus Law Centre, 600 at Law Centre I and 400 at Law Centre
  2. Of this, 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, respectively. The seats reserved for SC/ST candidates are interchangeable subject to non-availability of the candidates in the respective categories and shall be offered to general candidates in case SC/ST candidates are not available.
  3. The Foreign nationals with qualifying degrees from foreign are exempted from Entrance Test and may be admitted on merit against 1% to total seats at each Law Centre. Admissions in this category
    will close along with other admissions.


Only those candidates are eligible to be admitted to LL.M course and appear in the LL.M. Entrance Test who fulfils the following requirements regarding educational qualifications and age:

  • All candidates having a three-year/five-year LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi or any other Indian or foreign university recognised as equivalent by the University of Delhi with at least 50% marks or equivalent grade point in the aggregate.
  • The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe having a three-year/five-year LL.B. Degree from the University of Delhi or any other Indian or foreign university recognised as equivalent by the University of Delhi with at least 45% marks or equivalent grade point in the aggregate.


The LL.M. Entrance Test includes questions of descriptive type as well as objective type with multiple choice in seven areas: Indian Constitutional Law; Jurisprudence; Law of Contracts (General Principles); Law of. Torts; Indian Penal Code; Public International Law {Law of Peace) and Law of marriage and Divorce.


Prospectus with Application Form for LL.B./LL.M. Entrance Test 2009 can be obtained:-

  • On Cash payment of Rs 200.00 from Admission Co-ordinator, Faculty of Law
  • By Post: Send Bank Draft of Rs. 250/- drawn in favour of Registrar, University of Delhi, payable at Delhi/New Delhi, to be sent to Admission Co-ordinator, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, Delhi - 110007 latest upto 02 March 2009
  • E-form: Application form may be downloaded from website: (An additional fee of Rs. 200.00 must be added to the Test fee of Rs. 500.00)

Form will be available from Monday, 02 February 2009 to Monday, 09 March 2009

Deposit Application Form with Test fee of Rs. 500.00 (Rs. 150/- for S.C./S.T. category) at the office of Admission Co-ordinator, Faculty of Law. Last date for submission of Application Form 09 March 2009. L.L.B entrance test will held on 22 March 2009 and L.L.M entrance test on 29th March 2009.
