Founded by Sir Shri Ram in the memory of his late wife Lady Shri Ram on 31st July, 1956, the College soon outstripped its modest beginnings in the old Delhi area of Daryaganj. Indeed, its fast paced growth is evidenced by the fact that in just two years from its foundation, in 1958 the College relocated to its present verdant, spacious and well appointed location in Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi. At present, the college has approximately 2000 students, more than 150 faculty members, administrative and support staff. The 16 departments of the college offer 16 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate programmes. Over the years, the college has earned a reputation for excellence in academics and extra curricular achievement. The college falls under the purview of the Delhi University. At the college, while there is a great emphasis on the traditional aspects the future too is embraced with equal elan. With its emphasis on the humanities and social sciences, L.S.R has become an emblem of a unique intellectual and cultural fusion. Three years at LSR can empower one to take on challenges head-on, not merely for oneself but for the community at large. Confident, responsible and committed individuals is what LSR claims to produce .It moulds its women to be women who can make a difference Feminism is the buzz word for many in the college. Individual effort in creating constructive alternatives for a society ridden with sexual and racial discrimination, is the byword for the young women here. LSR is the college that provides the perfect environment for academic proficiency and personal evolution. Under the guidance and Chairmanship of industrialist Dr.Bharat Ram along with some supportive Board of Governors, who are from diverse fields, such as industry, law, journalism, academics and the bureaucracy, LSR is today is widely known for its academic excellence in various fields of study. The mission of Lady Shri Ram College has always been to instill women with a power to assume leadership Lady Shri Ram College is not only known for its academic excellence but also for its extra curricular activities. Students regularly take part in various inter-collegiate events. Some of the outstanding societies of LSR College include the English/Hindi Debating Societies, Indian/ Western Music Societies, Dramatics Society, Projekt (film and photography society), Hive (art society), Dance Society, Quiz Society, Prakriti (environmental awareness society), Expressions, The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY), Women's Development Cell, and Academic Forum.

Various opportunities are provided by the Voluntary Agency Placement Cell for students to make a hearty contribution to community development and social welfare. There is something for every student in the LSR College. For example, those who are inclined towards the social welfare and community service, there is the NSS or the National Service Scheme. The students who become the members of the NSS generally are involved in community outreach programmes, blood donation camps, campaigns against drug abuse and teaching the physically and mentally challenged.


Candidates who have passed the HS examination (10+2) or other equivalents are eligible to apply. The aggregate required for admission will be calculated on the basis of marks secured in English, which is the medium of instruction (except for Sanskrit), and three other elective subjects. For admission in Sanskrit, a student has the option of including any language other than English in her ‘best four’ total.

For admission to Commerce or Economics, one of the subjects in Class 12 must be mathematics. However, mathematics need not be included in the ‘best four’ total.

Admissions to Bachelor of Elementary Education are done through an entrance examination and interview conducted by the Central Institute of Education (CIE) in the main University Campus. For further details refer to information booklet available at CIE.


The student needs to fill in the application form for admission. Students can indicate preferences for 3 courses on each form. LSR College displays the first cut-off list of all the subjects that a student had studied in her last qualifying examination. On admission, the candidate is required to submit all original certificates on the same day and pay the fees in cash. The documents required are:-
Date of Birth Certificate or HS Examination Certificate stating the date of birth
Original mark-sheet issued by the Board/University
Character Certificate from the Head of Institution last attended
Two passport size photographs should be pasted on the College Enrolment Form and another submitted to the office on the day of the interaction after the admission is finalized. Attestation by the Principal of school/college or by a gazetted officer with his/her office stamp will be accepted. SC/ST certificates wherever applicable

Written Test

For admission to the English and Journalism degree, there will be a written test. All students who wish to be considered for the written test have to apply on the college admission form only. Both English and Journalism departments have a separate eligibility criteria for application to take the test. The applications selected to appear for the test have to register in person. The following items are required for the registration:

Registration Fees
Original mark-sheets
The date of the test will be notified on the College Notice Board.

An admission to the Master's degree courses is done through the respective Faculty of Arts/Commerce, University of Delhi. Before applying for the respective course, the student must make sure that they have registered themselves and obtained an admission slip from the respective faculties.
