Miranda House, one of the premier women's institutions in Delhi University, is also one of the oldest. Set up in response to a demand for higher education for women, its foundation stone was laid by Edwina Mountbatten on March 7,1948. Miranda House offers liberal education in humanities and science to more than 2500 students. Miranda House was one of the first colleges in the university to introduce courses in science. Initially classes were held in the university. Classes for B.Sc. (Gen) shifted to the college in 1963 and for the Honours courses in 1971. The faculty in renowned for its meritorious profile, versatile talents and dedication to the cause of liberal education. The college has produced women who have excelled in various professions and have contributed in numerous ways to the society at large. The college has always maintained high academic standards. Most importantly, the college has provided to students freedom to express themselves openly and develop views that help them respond to changes in society.
Selection is on the basis of marks secured in the Senior Secondary High School Examination of the CBSE or an equivalent Board. As the number of seats is limited, eligibility does not guarantee admission. A limited number of seats are available on the basis of merit in sports and extracurricular activities as determined by a selection process carried out on announced dates.
For B. A. (Honours) in Sanskrit, Bengali and Hindi, the selection will be on the basis of Aggregate percent marks obtained in respective Language(Elective or Core) and three Academic Subjects.
For B. A. (Honours) Mathematics, the selection will be on the basis of Aggregate percent Marks in Mathematics, one Language (Core/Elective) and two Academic Subjects.
For all other courses under BA, the selection will be on the basis of Aggregate percent marks obtained in One Language(Elective or Core English) and three Academic Subjects.
For B. Sc. (Honours) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Aggregate % Marks in PCM, the selection will be on the basis of Aggregate percent marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
For B. Sc. (Honours) in Botany, Life Science and Zoology, the selection will be on the basis of Aggregate percent marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology
For B. Sc. (Honours) in Applied Physical Science, the selection will be on the basis of Aggregate percent marks obtained in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Computer Scienc.
Seats: 454 in arts and 195 in science
Cut-off: 75-90 per cent
All selected candidates are required to fill the Form attached to the Prospectus. Candidates who have applied using the Centralized Pre-admission Form or the College Online Admission Form are additionally required to procure the Prospectus and fill the Green Admission Form attached to it.
All candidates are required to submit the following certificates in original:
Mark Sheet giving details of marks secured in the qualifying Class XII Examination;
Character Certificate issued by the Head of the school/college last attended;
Date of Birth Certificate, preferably the Class X certificate issued by the Examination Board.
Certificate of having passed Hindi in those cases where the student has studied Hindi up to class VIII;
Two recent passport sized photographs and one stamp sized photograph for the identity card, all unattested;
One set of self-attested copies of all the above certificates.
Modern Indian languages : Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil
The same subjects are offered as at the B.A. Honours level except for Political Science, Geography and Sociology.
Group B : Chemistry, Botany, Zoology
Computer Science Group : Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science
The same subjects are offered as at the B.Sc. Honours level, as well as Anthropology.
