Modern School was started in Daryaganj in 1920, New Delhi. The school is counted amongst one of the oldest and premier educational institutes in New Delhi. The School is located 2 kms from New Delhi Railway Station; 5 kms from the Delhi junction and 6 kms from Inter State Bus Terminal. Its primary objctive were intellectual stimulation, athletic excellence, and cultural participation. The words of Rabindranath Tagore are embodied in the philosophy of the founding fathers of Modern School. Lala Raghubir Singh established the school. The emphasis is not only on achieving a high academic standard but also encouraging the development of an all-round, well-integrated personality by promoting national consciousness and the importance of social service among students. Sports and physical education have an important place in the curriculum and are compulsory for all students.There is a constant effort on part of the teachers to prepare students who can work towards realizing the goal of perfection. The credo of Modern School "Naimatma Balheenien Labhya" from Sanskrit literally means, "Perfection can only be achieved by the strong." The question is not survival of the fittest, or survival at the cost of others. It is the path of confidence, self-respect, and humility. Accordingly, the school is governed by the rules, regulations and curriculum of CBSE for the purpose of All India Secondary School Examination at the end of class 10 and Senior School Certificate Examination at the end of class 12, under the 10+2 pattern.

Summer uniform includes blue shirt, blue skirt, a blue and black tie for formal occasions, light blue nylon socks and black shoes. In winters students has to wear additional blue blazer with the school emblem or a half sleeves sweater or a full sleeves sweater and longer cotton socks.
Besides offering swimming and gymnastics, the school offers hostel accommodation for boys. The school also organizes hockey, cricket, football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, squash, and many other outdoor activities for the development of students.
The members of the Illuminati Physics Club have made a working model of innovative concept car "ASPIRE" which can perform sideways motion along with straight motion. Bits 'n' Bytes club organizes an annual inter-school computer symposium. Debating Society members take part in the debates at the city and regional level. Robotics Club provides a platform for students to showcase their talent in electronics and robotics. The members of interact club take part in activities like donations to orphanages, recycling drives, anti piracy drives and blood donation camps. Stamp collecting, speech and dramatics, carpentry, tailoring, embroidery, soft toy making, electronics, paper work, gardening, typing, cookery, journalism, music, dance, batik, tie & dye, painting and leather work are some of the activities. As part of the general education programme, educational tours and excursions are also organized regularly.

Admission process for Nursery commences during September and an Interview is conducted for selection to these classes. Admission
process for classes 1st to 5th commences from April and selection is made on the basis of a written test.An entrance test is held each year for applicants seeking admission to other classes. For classes other than nursery admission depends on vacancies. Advance registration for admission is advisable. Application for registration for admission to pre - school class in R S junior modern school humayun road & Modern School vasant vihar available on Saturday, 15th November 2008 between 8:30am and 1:00pm at the respective school office. Minimum Age - 3 years as on 31st March 2009.Admission fee of Rs. 2000/- and fees for the terms are to be paid at the Vidyashram, at the time of admission.
