The glorious history of St. Stephens can be traced back to 1st February 1881 when it started functioning in a small house in Katra Khusal Rai near Kinari Bazar in Chadni Chowk. It was established by a Christian Mission from west Coat House, Cambridge. Initially St Stephens College was affiliated to Calcutta University, then to Punjab University and finally with the establishment of the Delhi University in 1922 it became a part of it. This College of Delhi University focuses on the development of integrated personality of the students and provides ample facilities for it. The library of the college contains some ninety thousand books. It has super outdoor and indoor game facilities. The Francis Monk gymnasium, the Junior Common room and the Ladies Common room provides facilities for various indoor games including gymnastics, squash, badminton, tale tennis and others. The Rev. Samuel Scott Allnutt was its Founder and first Principal. The anniversary of his death is observed as Founder's Day on 7 December every year.


Admission is granted on the basis of the candidate's academic record & performance at the interview keeping in mind his/her all-round competence.
For B.A./B.Sc. Courses, applicants must have passed the Senior School Certificate (10+2 scheme) or an equivalent examination. They must be seventeen years on or before October 1, 2009. For B.A. Honours Economics, B. Sc. Honours and B. Sc. Programme Mathematics till Class XII is compulsory. Candidates with Business Mathematics are not eligible for Honours in Mathematics
For B.A. Honours English : preference will be given to students who have studied Elective English or English Literature. Class-10 marks should include any five subjects at the Class-10 Board examination. The College does not admit students to the II and III year classes. Migration from other colleges is not permitted.
For admission to M.A / M.Sc. Previous, an applicant must have passed the Bachelor's degree examination (10+2+3 scheme) and must have completed twenty years on or before October 1, 2009.


Admission to St. Stephens College is based on the academic record and an interview. Every year it declares a certain cut off marks for admitting students into the college. For admission to under graduate courses in St. Stephens College only those candidates are called for interview whose percentage in 10+2 exam are above the declared cut off marks. For admission to M.A./Msc. courses in St. Stephens College only those candidate are considered for admission whose names are cleared by the relevant departments of the University. Therefore the candidates need to apply separately in both the University and the college.

For admission to St. Stephens College, the prospectus with application forms, On-Campus Residence (hostel) brochure, and College Handbook for admission to the 1st year B.A./B.Sc, 2009 - 2010 are available in the college office from May 21, 2009. One can avail these from the college counter and also by post. You will also be able to download and submit the application form for undergraduate courses on the college Website.

An additional form is to be filled for Residence (hostel) facility.
Those applying under the ‘Sports category’ also have to fill a special additional form.
These can also be obtained by post by sending a Demand Draft. for Rs.250/- towards the cost plus handling charges, payable to "Principal, St. Stephen's College, Delhi".

Forms for B.A./B.Sc. classes are also available with online submission facility on the College website.

Applications for admission to first year should be received in the College office on or before 15 June. Candidates are, however, advised to apply as early as possible.

Application forms for M.A. / M.Sc. will be available from the College counter from June 16, 2009 and will not be available on web for download. Last date for submission of the Application forms for M.A. / M.Sc. is likely to be July 16, 2009.
