How To Cure Food Posioning Using Home Products

People infected with foodborne organisms may be symptom-free or may have symptoms ranging from mild intestinal discomfort to severe dehydration and bloody diarrhea. Depending on the type of infection, people can even die as a result of food poisoning. More than 250 different diseases can cause food poisoning. Some of the most common diseases are infections caused by bacteria, such as Campylobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli O157:H7, Listeria, and botulism. Depending on the contaminant, other symptoms such as chills and fever, bloody stools, dehydration, and nervous system damage may follow and can lead to death. At least one out of five Americans suffer food poisoning each year, and over 9,000 deaths are reported as a result. Food poisoning stems not from food additives, chemical fertilizers, or pesticides applied to food by growers or processors, but from poor food storage or handling practices in home or restaurant kitchens that cause food to become contaminated.

Symptoms

There are many symptoms of food poisoning and these resemble intestinal flu which lasted for few hours or several days. Abdominal cramps, nausea, green stools, vomiting, and diarrhea, headaches, shaking of arms and legs and fever are the symptoms of food poisoning.

Treatment For Food Poisoning

Some home treatment for dealing with food poisoning are provided below

Small and frequent sips of the clear fluids are a good option for staying hydrated.

Drink abundance of fluid when you suffering from nausea or vomiting, but don’t eat the solid food.

Avoid caffeinated, alcoholic or the sugary drinks. Over the counter products of rehydration made up for the children such as Rehydralyte and Pedialyte are very expensive and it is good to use if they are available.

Sports drinks like Powerade and Gatorade are well for the adults if the drink is diluted with the water since they contain much sugar which causes diarrhea.

After tolerating the fluid successfully, slowly start the eating, when the vomiting and nausea have ended. The plain food which is good for the stomach should be started in little amount. Prefer the food which contains wheat, rice, breads, potatoes, lean meats, and non fried chicken.

It is better to refrigerate promptly and not to let food at room temperature for more than two hours. Set the refrigerator at 40°F or even lower to save foods. Cook food or heat it properly to kill harmful bacteria. Try to prevent cross contamination from food product in the kitchen. It can move on to knives, cutting boards, and sponges and counter tops. Try to keep raw meat, poultry, and sea food away from other foods which are ready to eat. It is better to keep hot food hot and cold food cold. It is better to refrigerate perishables leftover within two hours and not to defrost food on kitchen counter.
