Monday, November 7th, 2011

Causes

Jaundice may occur when the flow of bile from the liver, through the biliary system to the intestine, is blocked. The bile stagnates in the liver, which in turn means that the yellow pigment bilirubin, flows back in to circulation.

Obstrtuctive Jaundice: Is caused by gallstones. It usually happens when the bile ducts are blocked and bile can not pass into the intestines.

Haemolytic Jundice: Occurs when too much bilirubin is produced by the breakdown of red blood cells.

Liver damage, as a result of hepatitis or chronic malaria may also contribute to jaundice. Alcoholism and poisons are rare causes. Jaundice is very common in healthy newborn babies, because of an immature liver.

Remedies

* ‘Jaundex’ syrup in the dose of 10ml thrice a day along with one tablet of “Nirocil”, in many instances, clears the jaundice within one week. This should be used under a doctor’s surveillance preferably.

* Punarnava Mandoor, 1 tab thice daily for 2 to 3 weeks.

* Navrayas Loh can also be given in the dose of 125mg thrice daily.

* Liv 52 tablet (Himalaya Drugs) is a very popular drug, given in the dose of 1 to 2 tablets thrice daily.

A Quick Hand Treatment

Hands are the most visible parts of you, but they also take a lot of abuse. You use them in everyday activity, and yet, they are the ultimate accessory. You must give them the same attention you give your face.

Soften your hands even while you do the dishes. Add a little almond oil (about a teaspoon) to dishwater. The water will soften rought skin while the oil seals the moisture.
Slough off dead skin cells with a solution made of sea salt lemon. Brush it into hands with an old toothbrush. Do this twice a week to soften hands and remove discoloration.
Wash hands thoroughly with warm water, then, using a coarse washcloth, rub briskly. While skin is slightly damp, apply a mixture of one teaspoon honey and one teaspoon olive oil. Place hands in small plastic bags, then in a pair of cotton gloves for thirty minutes. The heat helps the treatment penetrate.
Warm a cup of milk in the microwave for thirty seconds (or until warm, but comfortable to the touch). Soak your hands for five minutes to strengthen nails and hydrate skin. Not only is milk loaded with lactic acid, a natural alpha hydroxyl acid that gently exfoliates dead skin, but its high calcium content will strengthen fragile nails.
Hands are vital to a well-groomed appearance because a gesture made by the conveys as much as your face or your words. Some of the common hands problems can be cured by little attention paid by yourself.Good care of your hands and nails results in beautiful hands.

Toothache pain is often allayed by placing a small piece of onion on the bad tooth or gum, since onion has antibacterial properties that kill the germs in the mouth.

4. Lime:
This rich source of vitamin C prevents tooth decay and also provides toothache pain relief.

5. Wheat grass:
The juice of wheat grass is an excellent mouthwash for tooth decay and a natural toothache remedy. It also draws out the toxins from the gums and checks bacterial growth.

6. Asafoetida:
This bitter, foul-smelling resinous material obtained from the roots of several plants of the parsley family, helps in instant toothache relief.

Know About Hair Bling

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Everyone knows what “bling” is – bling can be jewels or glitter, something that shines and makes you seem a little more financially sound than you actually are! So, where does hair bling come in? You might think of sparkling barrettes or hairpieces, but really it is more of what you can do with the color.

If you have ever seen a music video or seen a movie star with glittery hair, that is hair bling. You see it a lot more often than you used to because it is now easier than ever to do. The best sparkly hair dose not come out of a spray can. It comes out of an airbrush. Professional make up artists and hair stylists have been using their airbrushes to create this look – and you can, too.

If you think that the only thing you can do with your airbrush for your hair is to make it sparkle, then you are wrong. Believe it or not, both men and women are using airbrushing techniques to create colored highlights in their hair, and even to cover up gray hair. You can use it to color just a few strands a particular color, or give all of your roots the once-over.

That being said, don’t forget about the fun that you can have with your airbrush. Kids love getting their hair colored with it, and their parents don’t mind either because it washes right out. It doesn’t stain their clothes and won’t rub off on anyone or anything. This type of temporary and very affordable hair bling is ideal for parties and is an inexpensive way to really dress up both kids and adults alike. All you really need is a quality makeup airbrush, a few exciting colors, and you will be ready to start creating a little of that bling.

Stress management prevents Hair Loss

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Research suggests that stress can cause temporary hair loss and hair thinning causes increased anxiety. Extreme stress can be brought on by work, home life, divorce, financial difficulties, death of a loved one and the list goes on. Stress can cause havoc to the body as it interferes with the hair growth pattern as the stress chemicals in the body are disrupted and transmit signals to hair follicles which discontinues hair growth.

Hair loss can be related to stress and hair thinning causes a person increased anxiety.Research suggests that stress can cause temporary hair loss and hair thinning causes increased anxiety.Extreme stress can be brought on by work, home life, divorce, financial difficulties, death of a loved one and the list goes on.Stress can cause havoc to the body as it interferes with the hair growth pattern as the stress chemicals in the body are disrupted and transmit signals to hair follicles which discontinues hair growth.

This type of hair loss is normally classified as telogen effluvium which is a temporary form of hair loss. Hair sheds from the roots as it has entered the resting phase. Once the stressful period has finished the hair follicles will stay in this resting period of the cycle and new hair growth will commence when the hair shedding has stopped. This type of hair loss does not cause bald patches as it is more of a ‘difuse shed’ where hair sheds all over the scalp. With this particular type of hair loss it is not necessary to get hair transplants or seek advice from a dermatologist as the hair growth should resume once the stress has been reduced.

It is important to address the stress which is causing the hair loss as you want hair growth to continue. If you find the hair loss is causing further stress there are immediate cosmetic fixes to the problem such as wigs and hair pieces which can be purchased over the internet. You should not stop going out because of the hair shedding.

The best way to deal with extremely stressful events is to learn how to manage your stress levels. It is best to keep active as opposed to sitting around worrying as this will possibly make it even worse and enlarge the problem. Find an activity that you derive pleasure from, such as running, walking the dog, shopping, dancing, meeting up with friends, reading, writing, and art. If you are unemployed and don’t want to be sitting around the house all day worrying try taking up voluntary work. Try discussing your problem with a close friend or relative as they may have experienced a similar event and might be able to offer you solutions to the problem.

If you find that the stress is ongoing you may want to seek advice from a medical specialist but you should only confide in one who you feel comfortable with. You do not want to be divulging all of your secrets and problems to somebody who you feel uncomfortable around.

Some herbal teas that are recommended to reduce stress levels are skullcap, lavender, chamomile, passionflower, wood betony, and lemon balm. These teas can be found in supermarkets and heath food shops. You may want to add a teaspoon of honey to add a little sweetness.

Herbal capsules such as valerian, kava, st. john’s wart are effective ways in treating stress as opposed to taking xanax, valium which can be highly addictive and you may create a whole lot of new problems for yourself.
