Dry hair is dehydrated hair – between 4 and 13 % of healthy hair is water. Where a normal strand of hair will stretch to a third of its length when pulled, dry hair is more likely to break, stretching only half as far. Most dry hair is a result of colouring, perming, straightening, or bleaching. Dry hair also tends to be fine and thin.
Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, shampoo only once each wash, and follow up at least once a month with an intensive moisturizing treatment. When you shampoo, don’t scrub the ends too much – it makes them brittle, massage your scalp thoroughly and keep any brushing and combing to a minimum when your hair is wet. If you use a hair dryer, stop drying while the hair is still slightly damp.
