Quit Smoking : Smoking is very harmful to your health.

Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts.

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is important to your health, your normal diet and to help lose weight. Water is necessary for the metabolism of your stored fat. Weight loss cannot occur without an active metabolism which requires large quantities of water. Another way to use water to lose weight is to drink a large glass of ice water just before meals. The cold causes your stomach to shrink slightly which will make you feel full faster.

Aerobic, swimming, cycling, walking and jumping are all considered aerobic activities. These should be performed daily atleast for 20 to 30 mintues.

To lose weight quickly, never skip a meal. Your first meal after waking starts your metabolism. Your metabolism then speeds up for about eight hours and then starts slowing down until you go to sleep when it goes to low until you wake and eat and start the cycle again. Skip breakfast and your metabolism doesn’t get started until lunch time. You’ve just missed three or four hours of fat burning time. When you skip meals during the day, your metabolism also slows down. Weight loss through the burning of stored fat is all about eating enough of the right kinds of foods so you stay full and your metabolism stays as high as possible.

Pimple is a disease that affects the teenagers most and though not critical, it sure makes the social life of a teenager miserable due to its appearance. It is a disease that has pestered the youth from time immortal and has popular home remedies practiced in all parts of the world. The pimples generally occur at face, though neck, back and shoulders are the other most popular body areas to host it. The scientific name for pimple is Acne Vulgaris. Sebum that is produced by the sebaceous glad keeps the skin and the hair on it moist. Excessive sebum secretion by the sebaceous glands during the adolescence is the main reason for pimple eruptions.

When hairs, sebum, and skin cells group together, they may form a plug, which serves as a breeding ground for bacteria. Soon, swelling sets in and as the plug starts to “break down,” the result is an unattractive pimple. There are no age limitations when it comes to pimples. While teenagers and young adults suffer a greater chance of reoccurrence, there are some individuals who never lose their susceptibility.

Some Remedies :

* Make a mixture of cinnamon powder and honey and apply on your pimples before you go to bed in the night. Wash it with warm water when you wake up in the morning. Do this for a fortnight and watch your pimples disappear.

* Mix a tablespoon each of fresh lime juice and groundnut oil and apply it on your face to avoid blackheads.

* Not only are oranges good for overall health, you can use orange peels as a remedy for pimples too. Grind the peels, mix them with a few drops of water and apply it on your face.

Knee Pain Can Be Cured At Your Own Home

Knee pain is one of the most common health disorders that people around the world have to deal with. Statistical records show that a whopping 19.4 million people seek medical help every year in the U.S., complaining of some kind of pain in the knees.

What is cerebral malaria?

Cerebral malaria is the most severe neurological complication of infection with Plasmodium falciparum. With over 575,000 cases annually, children in sub-Saharan Africa are the most affected. Surviving patients have an increased risk of neurological and cognitive deficits, behavioral difficulties and epilepsy making cerebral malaria a leading cause of childhood neuro-disability in the region. The pathogenesis of neuro-cognitive sequelae is poorly understood: coma develops through multiple mechanisms and there may be several mechanisms of brain injury.

Studies have shown that about 10% of all patients of malaria are infected with falciparum malaria and over 80% of deaths occur due to the brain infection. The mortality rate is between 25 to 50% and if not treated promptly, it can cause death within 24 to 72 hours of infection. The most prominent histopathological characteristic of cerebral malaria is the segregation of the cerebral capillaries and venules with parasitized red blood cells (PRBC) and non-parasitized red blood cells (non-PRBC). One will see ring like lesions in the brain.

On rare occations, the parasite causes cerebellar ataxia, but no loss of consciousness. The ataxia can occur up to 4 weeks after a malaria attack occurs, but will disappear after 1-2 weeks.
Physical manifestations of the disease may be an abnormal EEG resulting from the lack of oxygen, loss of sulci, and a MRI may show hemorrhagic lesions and infarction.

If left untreated, cerebral malaria will lead to death of patient. There are two types of cerebral malaria treatment that help in saving the patient’s life. These include antimalarial chemotherapy as adjunctive measure. In case of chemotherapy, the patients with severe cerebral malaria are administered with quinine. The use of this drug that has remained the most effective treatment for cerebral malaria for many years. Quinine affects the digestive ability of the parasite’s enzymatic digestion causing its death.

Without treatment, cerebral malaria is invariably fatal. In children, parenteral antimalarials (cinchonoids or artemisinin derivatives) are indicated, but even with this treatment, 15-20% die.

Chicken pox, medically known as varicella, is a highly contagious disease affecting mostly children and sometimes adults also. The rash appears on the body 2 days after the person gets infected. The rash forms into blisters, which burst and then scab over. Therefore, it is uncommon to have more than one bout of chickenpox in your lifetime.

The standard treatment for chicken pox is to put some calamine lotion on the spots. For my kids, this did seem to help pretty immediately. The downside is that the effects wore off pretty quickly, so within ten minutes they were scratching again. This is good for a quick fix, but not lasting effects. Also, be prepared for everything to be covered in pink cream.

Some children feel quite unwell for a few days. Others appear only mildly ill. Most are much better within a week. The blisters dry up and scab.

Application of Vitamin E oil helps and has a healing effect. The scars fade away very quickly.
