Jaundice is caused by an infection which distorts the liver into malfunctioning. It is unable to produce the normal amount of bile needed for maintaining the functions of body cells and tissues. These toxins need to be flushed out to restore balance and bring the immune system back to normal.

Some Of The home remedies for jaundice are :

1. Make a paste with fresh papaya leaves. Add half-teaspoon honey in this and have it everyday.

2. Add ¼ th turmeric powder into one glass of hot water. Drink this water two to three times in a day.

3. Take fresh radish leaves and extract juice form them. Consume one cup of this juice twice or thrice in a day.

4. Drink limejuice as, as it is very effective home remedies for jaundice .

5.Prepare a cupful of juice of beetroot and lemon in equal proportions. Having this juice for a few days will definitely cure jaundice.

6. Take few leaves of Aegle marmelos (Bael tree) and grind them. Drink this juice at least one in a day.

7. Take a glass of sugarcane juice and add powder of roasted gram. Drink this glass of juice everyday. This will give the permanent relief from Jaundice.

8. Boil about one cup of water and add ten to twelve leaves of lemon tree into this boiling water. Cover the vessel with proper lid. Drink this solution three to four times in a day.

9. Take the luffa vegetable in a cloth and keep a heavy object over it. After this crush these luffa vegetables and extract its juices. Take the juice of this luffa vegetable over the palms of your hand and take this juice inside your body through nostrils.

10. Make a combined juice mixing lemon juice, ginger juice and mint juice together. Blend all these juices in a blender and drink this at least three times in a day.

Beneficial diet For Fighting with Jaundice

One of the best diets we have by which we can fight with jaundice. While doing this just keep in mind that you are not having any extra food either than this diet.

After wake up – Take two to three glass of luke warm water with lemon or simply two to three glass of lemon water.

· Breakfast – In breakfast Jaundice patient must take fruit juices only. Like apple, mango, papaya, orange, grapes etc. with some wheat bread.

· Before Lunch – Before lunch patient must take some glasses of lemon water or fresh juice.

· Lunch – Hot vegetable soup, steamed leafy vegetable and milk. One can also take light food like dahlia.

· Evening – At evening again some fresh fruit juices or coconut juice or lemon water can be taken.

· Dinner – At dinner jaundice patient may take boiled potato, steamed vegetable and a glass of milk with honey.

Jaundice may occur when the flow of bile from the liver, through the biliary system to the intestine, is blocked. The bile stagnates in the liver, which in turn means that the yellow pigment bilirubin, flows back in to circulation.

Obstrtuctive Jaundice: Is caused by gallstones. It usually happens when the bile ducts are blocked and bile can not pass into the intestines.

Haemolytic Jundice: Occurs when too much bilirubin is produced by the breakdown of red blood cells.

Liver damage, as a result of hepatitis or chronic malaria may also contribute to jaundice. Alcoholism and poisons are rare causes. Jaundice is very common in healthy newborn babies, because of an immature liver.


* ‘Jaundex’ syrup in the dose of 10ml thrice a day along with one tablet of “Nirocil”, in many instances, clears the jaundice within one week. This should be used under a doctor’s surveillance preferably.

* Punarnava Mandoor, 1 tab thice daily for 2 to 3 weeks.

* Navrayas Loh can also be given in the dose of 125mg thrice daily.

* Liv 52 tablet (Himalaya Drugs) is a very popular drug, given in the dose of 1 to 2 tablets thrice daily.

* Livpar tablet (Gufic) is also very good in controlling jaundice in the above doses.

Home Remedies For Jaundice

Following are some home remedies to cure jaundice

1. Boil 250ml water and add 15gm of dry snake gourd leaves to it. After boiling, filter it and store the water in a bottle. Now add few coriander seeds in 500 ml of water and boil it for 15-20 minutes. Consume the filtered water with the decoction of coriander seeds three times daily.

2· Take green leaves of radish and extract their juice. Consume daily to get relief from jaundice.

3· Extract the juice of the green leaves of pigeon pea and take approx 60ml daily. It is a proven home remedy for jaundice. A significant improvement is guaranteed after regular use.

4· Take a banana and mash it properly. Add 1 tablespoon of honey to it. Eat it twice. It is very well known and simple home remedy for jaundice.

5· Take 2 dates (dried), 8 almonds and 5 cardamoms. Soak these overnight. Remove the outer covering of almonds and seeds of date. Mix all the soaked ingredients to make a fine paste. Add a tablespoon of butter and sugar to this paste and lick it. It is an effective home remedy for jaundice.

6· Limejuice is very beneficial for jaundice patients. Drink it 2-3 times daily.

7· Boil 3 lt of water with a cup of barley added to it. Drink this water 5-6 times daily. It is very good home remedy for jaundice.

8· Another very effective home remedy for jaundice is sugarcane juice. You can add some lemon to it for taste. Drink 1-2 glasses daily.

9· Beetroot juice is very good for treating jaundice in a short span. Take half cup juice and add half lemon to it. Consume it at least once daily.

10· Add a pinch of black pepper to a cup of buttermilk. Consume it daily. Regular use of this drink is very helpful in treating jaundice.

11· Mix one teaspoon of fresh lime juice to ½ teaspoon of ginger juice. It is very well known home remedy for jaundice.

12· Take few papaya leaves and make a fine paste of them. Take 1 tablespoon honey and ½ tablespoon papaya leaves paste together.

13· Tomatoes are very beneficial in jaundice treatment. Eat 1-2 tomatoes or a glass of tomato juice daily on an empty stomach. Add some salt for taste.

14· Take 4gm of Indian gooseberry with a glass of water three times daily. Regular use of this is very useful home remedy for jaundice treatment.

Home Treatment And Diet For Jaundice

The juice of bitter luffa is consider effective for jaundice. It is obtained by squeezing the bitter luffa through cloth. The juice should be placed on the palm of the hand and drawn up through the nostrils. This will cause a profuse outflow of a yellow-coloured fluid through the nostrils. This is, however, a strong medicine and may cause side-effects like giddiness, migraine.

If the juice of green bitter luffa is not available, it can be substituted by two to three drops of the fluid obtained by soaking its dry crusts overnight in water. This will produce an identical effect. Seeds of bitter lnffa which are easily available can also be used for the same purpose after rubbing in water.

The juice of green leaves of radish should he taken daily by an adult patient. It induces a healthy appetite and proper evacuation of bowels, and this results in gradual decrease of the trouble. In most cases, complete cure can be ensured within eight or ten days.

Tomatoes are valuable in jaundice. A glass of fresh tomato juice, mixed with a pinch of salt and pepper, taken early in the morning, is considered an effective remedy for this disease.

Lemon is also beneficial in the treatment of jaundice. The patient should be given 20 ml of lemon juice mixed with water several times a day. This will protect the damaged liver cells.
Jaundice treatment using Barley Water

Barley water drunk several times during the day is another good remedy for this disease. One cup of barley should be boiled in three litres of water and simmered for three hours.
Jaundice treatment using Jaundice Berry

The herb jaundice berry, botanically known as Berberis vultaris is very useful in jaundice.The pulverized bark should be given several times a day in doses of one-fourth of a teaspoon in the treatment of this disease, or the fluid extract should be given 2-4 ml doses.

Diet for Jaundice:
After the juice fast, the patient may adopt an all-fruit diet for further three to five days. In this regimen, he should have three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits such as apples, pears, grapes, oranges and pineapples, but no bananas. Thereafter a simple diet may be resumed on the following lines:

Upon arising: A glass of warm water with juice of half a lemon.

Breakfast: One fresh juicy fruit such as apple, pear, mango, papaya, or some grapes, or berries. One cup wheat broken wheat or one slice of whole meal bread with a little butter.

Mid-morning: Orange or pear juice.
