Homeopathic Allergy Remedy

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Allium cepa: Indications for this remedy include watery eyes and a clear nasal discharge that irritates the upper lip, along with sneezing and a tickling cough. The person usually is thirsty, and feels worse indoors and when rooms are warm, and better in fresh air.

Arsenicum album: A burning, watery, runny nose with a stuffy, tickling feeling during allergy attacks suggests a need for this remedy. Swelling below the eyes and a wheezy cough are common.

Euphrasia: This homeopathic remedy can be helpful if the eyes are swollen and irritated with acrid tears or pus. The nose also runs, but with a blander discharge. Symptoms are often worse in the daytime and worse from warmth, and the eyes may hurt from too much light.

Ferrum phosphoricum: This is a very useful remedy in the early stages of any inflammation. Taken when allergy symptoms start, it often slows or stops an episode. Symptoms include runny eyes with a burning or gritty feeling, facial flushing, watery nose, and short, hard, tickling cough.

Gelsemium: A tired, droopy feeling during allergies with a flushed and heavy-feeling face suggest a need for this remedy. A sensation of dryness or of swollen membranes may be felt inside the nose-or the nose may run with irritating watery discharge, with the person sneezing frequently.

You may also find homeopathic remedy combinations for allergies. You will find the bottle has something listed on it about allergies, or pollen, or hayfever or sinus.

Homeopathic Remedies for Anxiety

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Short periods of anxiety are experienced by almost everyone, but some individuals are more inclined to be troubled with this problem. A sensation of discomfort or apprehension is experienced (both emotional and physical) and, although the person may be aware of a reason for feeling insecure or worried, the cause is sometimes difficult to identify. Some individuals experience “panic attacks”—very distressing episodes accompanied by breathing problems, palpitations, and intense (but temporary) feelings of both agitation and helplessness. Homeopathic remedies can often help to soothe anxiety and bring a person’s system into better balance.

Aconitum napellus: A panic attack that comes on suddenly with very strong fear (even fear of death) may indicate this remedy. A state of immense anxiety may be accompanied by strong palpitations, shortness of breath, and flushing of the face. Sometimes a shaking experience will be the underlying cause. Strong feelings of anxiety may also occur when a person is just beginning to come down with a flu or cold.

Argentum nitricum: This remedy can be helpful when anxiety develops before a big event: an exam, an important interview, a public appearance or social engagement. Dizziness and diarrhea may also be experienced. People who need this remedy are often enthusiastic and suggestible, with a tendency toward peculiar thoughts and impulses. They often crave sweets and salt (which usually make their symptoms worse).

Arsenicum album: People who are deeply anxious about their health, and extremely concerned with order and security, often benefit from this remedy. Obsessive about small details and very neat, they may feel a desperate need to be in control of everything. Panic attacks often occur around midnight or the very early hours of the morning. The person may feel exhausted yet still be restless—fidgeting, pacing, and anxiously moving from place to place. These people may also have digestive problems or asthma attacks accompanied by anxiety.

Calcarea carbonica: This remedy is usually indicated for dependable, solid people who become overwhelmed from physical illness or too much work and start to fear a breakdown. Their thoughts can be muddled and confused when tired, which adds to the anxiety. Worry and bad news may agitate them, and a nagging dread of disaster (to themselves or others) may develop. Fear of heights and claustrophobia are also common. A person who needs this remedy is often chilly and sluggish, has a craving for sweets, and is easily fatigued.

Gelsemium: Feelings of weakness, trembling, and mental dullness (being “paralyzed by fear”) suggest a need for this remedy. It is often helpful when a person has stage-fright about a public performance or interview, or feels anxious before a test, a visit to the dentist, or any stressful event. Chills, perspiration, diarrhea, and headaches will often occur with nervousness. Fear of crowds, a fear of falling, and even a fear that the heart might stop are other indications for Gelsemium.

Ignatia amara: A sensitive person who is anxious because of grief, loss, disappointment, criticism, loneliness (or any stressful emotional experience) may benefit from this remedy. A defensive attitude, frequent sighing, and mood swings are other indications. The person may burst unexpectedly into either tears or laughter. Headaches that feel like a nail driven into the side of the head, and cramping pains in the abdomen or back, are often seen when this remedy is needed.

Kali phosphoricum: When a person has been exhausted by overwork or illness and feels a deep anxiety and inability to cope, this remedy may help. The person is jumpy and oversensitive, and may be startled by ordinary sounds. Hearing unpleasant news or thinking of world events can aggravate the problems. Insomnia and an inability to concentrate may develop, increasing the sense of nervous dread. Eating, warmth, and rest often bring relief. Headaches, backaches, and nervous digestive upsets are often seen when this remedy is needed.

Lycopodium: Individuals likely to respond to this remedy feel anxiety from mental stress and suffer from a lack of confidence. They can be self-conscious and feel intimidated by people they perceive as powerful (yet may also swagger or be domineering toward those with whom they feel more comfortable). Taking on responsibility can cause a deep anxiety and fear of failure, although the person usually does well, once started on a task. Claustrophobia, irritability, digestive upsets with gas and bloating, and a craving for sweets are often seen when this remedy is needed.

Natrum muriaticum: Deep emotions and a self-protective shyness can make these people seem reserved, aloof, and private. Even when feeling lonely, they tend to stay away from social situations, not knowing what to say or do. (Inhibitions sometimes leave completely if they turn to alcohol, which makes them feel embarrassed afterwards.) Easily hurt and offended, they can brood, bear grudges, dwell on unhappy feelings, and isolate themselves—refusing consolation even when they want it. However, they are often sympathetic listeners to other people’s problems. Claustrophobia, anxiety at night (with fears of robbers or intruders), migraines, and insomnia are often seen when this remedy is needed.

Homeopathic Remedies For Asthma

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

There are many remedies that can be effective in treating allergic reactions, depending upon the type of allergy, time and location of reaction, affinity for warmth or cold, and emotional state. If a remedy is well suited for your condition, your will experience immediate improvement or, in some cases, a healing crisis (a brief worsening of symptoms followed by improvement). If symptoms persist, however, it indicates an incorrect potency, dosage, or remedy, or perhaps deeper underlying problems. As with all medicinal substances, one should be cautious in self-prescribing homeopathic remedies and seek professional medical advice before beginning a homeopathic course of treatment. The standard recommended dose for each of the remedies is three tablets of 6C or 30C every four hours until you see improvement. Repeat dosage if symptoms reappear. Be sure to follow the directions on the product labels.

* Ammonium carbobicum: Indicated for severe asthma, accompanied by exhausted breathing, shortness of breath when wheezing, bronchial constriction and congestion, difficulty in expectorating, burning in chest, cough with palpitations, slow labored breathing, bubbling sounds, lung swelling, and slimy sputum with specks of blood. Symptoms worsen around 3 a.m., on cold, cloudy days, in the damp open air, during menstruation. Symptoms improve while eating, lying on abdomen, or in dry weather.

* Aralia racemosa: Indicated for dry cough with first sleep, asthma on lying down at night, tickling in throat or sensation that something is stuck; strong, spasmodic cough, constriction of chest, whistling while breathing; frequent sneezing, hay fever accompanied by excessive water nasal discharge and salty, bitter taste in mouth. Also feel raw burning behind sternum; may become drenched with sweat during sleep. Symptoms worsen between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., after a nap, or being in a draft. Symptoms improve while lying with head high or sitting up.

* Arsenicum album: Indicated for dry cough with first sleep, asthma on lying down at night, tickling in throat or sensation that something is stuck; strong, spasmodic cough, constriction of chest, whistling while breathing; frequent sneezing, hay fever accompanied by excessive water nasal discharge and salty, bitter taste in mouth. Also feel raw burning behind sternum; may become drenched with sweat during sleep. Symptoms worsen between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., after a nap, or being in a draft. Symptoms improve while lying with head high or sitting up.

* Arsenicum album: Indicated for wheezing cough that may be alternately dry and loose; cough worsens during drinking and while lying on back, accompanied by burning in the chest, darting pain in the upper portion of the right lung, bloody sputum, and scanty, frothy expectoration. Feel very restless and anxious, chilly, need for warm water but only drinks in sips; also can’t lie down due to fear of suffocation or death. Symptoms worsen between 11:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., when consuming cold drinks, or in cold air.

Homeopathy and Sinusitis

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Homeopathic medicines are often effective in treating the acute symptoms of sinusitis, although professional “constitution al care” is usually necessary to cure chronic sinusitis. Consti tutional care refers to individualized treatment of a person’s entire health, physical and psychological, past and present. This professional homeopathic treatment can lead to a significant reduction in the frequency and intensity of acute sinusitis attacks and can often even lead to a total elimination of their occurance.

If one does not have access to professional homeopathic care or one simply seeks to empower themselves with self-treatment, the following remedies are quite effective in treating acute sinusitis. Please note that although several of these remedies are known poisons, they are sold only in such high dilutions that they are known to be non-toxic.

Arsenicum (arsenic): People who need this remedy feel throbbing and burning pains in the sinuses. Their pains are aggravated by light, noise, movement, after midnight, and may be triggered by anxiety, exertion, and excitability. They may feel relief by lying quietly in a dark room with the head raised on pillows and exposed to cool air. Their teeth may feel long and painful. They may feel nausea and experience vomiting concurrent with their sinusitis. They tend to have a great thirst, but they tend to drink frequent sips, rather than gulps.

Belladonna (deadly nightshade): This remedy is effective for people whose head feels full, as if it could burst. The pain usually resides in the forehead or around the eyes. There is throbbing pain that is worse by jarring, touch, bending forward, lying flat, or motion of the eyes and is relieved by gradually applied pressure, sitting up, or bending the head backwards. Another characteristic symptoms of people who need this remedy is when the sinus pain appear strongly and rapidly but then disap pears temporarily, only to repeat the process of coming and going pain. The eyes are also sensitive to light and the face is flushed. They are apt to feel dizzy which becomes worse when stooping.

Hepar sulphur (Hahnemann’s calcium sulphide): Rarely indicated at the beginning of a sinusitis condition, people who need Hepar sulphur begin sneezing and then develop sinusitis from the least exposure to cold air. Their nasal discharge is thick and yellow. The nostrils become very sore from the acrid discharge, and their nasal passages become sensitive to cold air. Concurrently, they may have a headache with a sense of a nail or a plug that is thrust into the head along with a boring or bursting pain. Their headache above the nose is worse from shaking the head, motion, riding in a car, stooping, moving the eyes, or simply from the weight of a hat, but is relieved by the firm pressure of a tight bandage. The scalp is so sensitive that simply combing the hair may be painful.

Kali bichromicum (potassium bichromate): The distinguishing feature of people with sinusitis who need this medicine is that they have a thick, stringy nasal discharge. They have extreme pain at the root of the nose that is better by applying pressure there. The bones and scalp feel sore. Dizziness and nausea when rising from sitting and the severe pain may lead to dimmed vi sion. The pains are worse by cold, light, noise, walking, stoop ing, and in the morning (especially on waking or at 9 am) or at night. They prefer to lie down in a darkened room and feel better by warmth, warm drinks, or overeating.

Mercurius (mercury): People who will benefit from this remedy feel as though their head was in a vise. The pains are worse in open air, from sleeping, and after eating and drinking. The pains are also aggragravated by extremes of hot and cold temperature. The scalp and the nose become very sensitive to the touch. Their teeth feel long and painful, and they may salivate exces sively. The nasal discharge is usually green and too thick to run. It is offensive smelling and acrid.

Pulsatilla (windflower): When the head pain is worse when lying down and in a warm room and is better in cool air, this medicine should be considered. The sinusitis may begin after being over heated. Stooping, sitting, rising from lying down, and eating can aggravate the head pain, which is often in the front part of the head and accompanied with digestive problems. They get some relief from slow walking in the open air or by wrapping the head tightly in a bandage. This condition is commonly experienced when the child is in school or the adult is at work. The nasal discharge is often thick and yellow or green.

Spigella (pinkroot): People who develop sinusitis with a sharp pain that is worse on the left side may need this medicine. They tend to get sinusitis after exposure to cold or cold, wet weath er. They feel pain from warmth or when they stoop or bend the head forward, and they feel some relief by cold applications or from washing with cold water.

DOSAGE: Take a dose of the 6th or 30th potency every two hours during intense symptoms and every four hours during mild symp toms. Some type of relief is commonly observed after one dose. Consider changing homeopathic remedies if observable benefit is not attained within 24 hours.

Homeopathy to Control Diabetes

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Before using homeopathy to treat diabetes, understand the system of homeopathy. Homeopathy is not the simple use of medication for treating a disease; rather it targeting the symptoms of the disease for treatment. Homeopathic medicines usually stimulate the body to create its own natural healing capacity. That is why before any treatment is instigated, the symptoms should be clearly understood. The symptoms of the disease change from individual to individual and the dosage and combination of medicines have to be altered to treat the symptoms in the most effective manner. Consult your physician before opting to use alternative medicines.

Phosphoric Acid and Phosphorus
Phosphoric acid helps alleviate symptoms of stress and nerves. Diabetes.org suggests that long-term stress can be a cause of “long term high blood glucose levels.” The symptoms include anxiety and grief and the urine contains too much sugar. It’s the first stage of diabetes and the individual may continuously pass colorless urine. Taking the combination Natrum sulphuricum will alleviate symptoms that are associated with diabetes, including dry mouth, while arsenicum helps in diabetic gangrene. Natrum sulphuricum usually helps in tissue problems related to diabetes and alleviates itching.

Bryonia
The most common symptom of the initial stages of diabetes is dry mouth that is helped by Bryonia. Thirst is reduced, as is the appetite, and the patient usually becomes lethargic. The use of Argentum metallicum helps in diuresis (increased formation of urine) usually caused in diabetes insipidus (abnormal state of water retention due to hormones and other external factors).

Homeopathic Medicines & Treatment for Vomiting

    Saturday, April 24th, 2010

    #Ipecac. [Ip]
The fact that small doses of Ipecac check vomiting is a homoeopathic legacy to allopathy. Ipecac has vomiting preceded by much nausea, a clean tongue and it is especially apt to occur after a meal. It is of doubtful value, however, in vomiting of cerebral origin. Ringers says: “Few remedies are so efficacious in checking certain kinds of vomitings.” Persistent nausea and vomiting is its chief indication.

    #Antimonium crudum. [Ant-c]
Vomiting with a white coated tongue is characteristic of this remedy. The patient vomits as soon as he eats or drinks. It is indicated in vomiting from an overloaded stomach, from eating indigestible substance, such as fat foods or from the heat of summer.
Kreosote suits vomiting of food in an undigested form after it has lain in the stomach for a long time. It is sympathetic vomiting, the irritation starting from some other organ than the stomach. It suites the vomiting of phthisis, cancerous growths, kidney diseases and is also useful in the vomiting of hysteria.

    #AEthusa. [Aeth]
A wonderful remedy in vomiting of children where large green curds of milk are vomited, followed by great exhaustion; there is a drawn looks about the mouth suggestive of nausea. The child is hungry, and soon after eating or nursing the vomited matters come with a rush and the child falls back exhausted, only to rouse up and go through the same process again.

    #Phosphorous. [Phos]
A very useful remedy in chronic vomiting of dyspepsia. There is great thirst for cold water, but as soon a it becomes warm in the stomach it is vomited. Phosphorous is also useful in vomiting of blood in gastric ulcer and cancer.
Bismuth. Vomiting immediately on taking foods, with burning pain.
Calcarea carbonica. The patient vomits milk as soon as taken, in sour cakes and curds.

    #Belladonna. [Bell]
Suits especially vomiting of cerebral origin, and here Glonoine is also apt to be needed.
Camphor monobromide. This remedy is useful in the persistent vomiting of children in brain affections.
Apomorphine. Vomiting of cerebral origin; profuse and sudden vomiting with little or no nausea.

    #Iris versicolor. [Iris]
Periodical vomiting spells and especially vomiting of sour matters so sour as to set the teeth on edge.
