Homeopathic Remedies and Medicines for Headaches

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

All homeopathic medicines are listed by their Latin names in order for manufacturers and users to be as precise as possible on the original source of the medicine. Please note that homeopathic medicines are legally recognized as drugs (usually “over-the-counter drugs,” that is, drug that do not require a doctor’s prescription due to their widely recognized safety). Homeopathic medicines are most effective when they are prescribed for the unique syndrome of symptoms the sick person has, not just the name of the disease s/he has. Because of the need for this degree of precision, the more knowledge the user has on how to select the individually determined medicine, the better the results with homeopathic medicines.

To determine the best dose and potency, it is best to get a homeopathic guidebook such as the one listed above as the original source of this information.

Most of us have one or two “weak links” — parts of the body that take the brunt of physical or psychological stress. Some people get colds, some digestive upsets, and a great number are prone to headaches.
Headaches can be a serious health problem. Some people suffer from headaches that are severe or frequent enough to be incapacitating. Certainly, there are times when a headache signals a serious condition. In the great majority of cases, however, the pain of a headache is best seen as a message that your stress level has risen too high. The headache serves as a warning that you need a change – perhaps to rest, deal with an emotional conflict, change your diet, or correct a problem in your personal environment at home or work.
Modern medicine classifies headaches according to the immediate cause of painful stimulation of nerve endings. The types of headaches include muscle-contraction headaches, vascular headaches, and headaches caused by inflammation or structural conditions.

Muscle-Contraction Headaches

Nearly everyone has had a muscle-contraction headache, more commonly but less precisely referred to as a ìtension headache.î Most people assume that the term ìtensionî refers to emotional stress, and in fact, many times this type of headache is brought on by stress on the job, being stuck in a traffic jam, or other such situations. But the pain of a muscle contraction headache arises from tightening of the muscles of the upper back, neck, and scalp, and this may result from any type of stress, whether physical or emotional. Extremes of heat or cold, hunger, loss of sleep, a tiring drive, and improper posture are all examples of physical stresses that can lead to muscle contraction headaches.

That the body responds to stress by increasing muscle tone makes senseóitís preparing for a ìfight or flightî response. Unfortunately, physical action isnít socially appropriate in many stressful situations, so the muscle tension just builds up. Once it reaches a certain threshold, you get a headache. The pain arises partly because the muscle is simply sore from being overworked, and partly because the tension constricts blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the tiring muscles. It is now thought that in many or most muscle contraction headaches, the physiological changes that account for vascular headaches also contribute to the pain (see the next section in this chapter). The pain of a muscle contraction headache is typically a dull, steady ache felt across the forehead, at the temples, or at the base of the head and neck. A sensation of tightness, as if a constricting band were wrapped around the head, may be felt. The scalp and neck are often tender to touch.

If Obesity in your Genes then beware

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

There are many people who will ask why bother trying to lose weight when it’s all in our genes. Some people are just naturally thin while other are prone of gain weight. The truth is that somewhere between 30 to 60 percent of weight gain is heredity. In essence, our whole body is engineered to survive with limited nutrients and we are genetically built for being active during the sunlight hours. But our hunting days are long gone and most of us now are tied to our desks or sit in our cars or houses, and the food magically comes directly to us.

The trick is therefore, as far as we can, to live and act in accordance to how our systems were originally programmes. It has been argued by some that obesity really started when cars became popular in the ’50s and ’60s. Likewise the advent of television made people even more sedentary. Since 1990, the level of overweight people in the United States has moved from 51 percent to 65 percent. The sad fact is people eat all day long accompanied by a significant decline in activity levels.

How many times have we heard people who say I choose fruit and vegetables instead of instead of bread or fries, I do hour at the gym at least three times and use the stairs instead of the elevator and I still cannot lose those unwanted pounds. It will often lead people to the conclusion that it’s not their fault, as it is their bad genes.”

It is not that simple. While you can partially blame your obese parents, genetics alone are very seldom responsible for your weight issues. It is true that there are many different genes that regulate body weight although scientists are still trying to get a better idea of the role that genes might play in weight gain. Their view is that we are at least 10 years away from finding more specific answers.

Homeopathic medicines and remedies for weight loss

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Almost one quarter of Americans are obese and other countries, as they develop, are seeing a big increase in obesity. There are very many treatments available on the market for weight loss but many are associated with side effects and toxicity problems. The one exception is homeopathy. There are around 200 homeopathic remedies for obesity and the choice of remedy is largely dependent on the unique and individual complete case history of the patient. This makes homeopathy so special. The right remedy is custom made for a particular patient. In dealing with the problem, it goes to the very root of it, is gentle on the body and takes into account the emotional and psychological aspects of a patient. Homeopathy delivers the remedy in minute but effective doses making it free from any side effects.

Scientists have put forward theories to explain how highly diluted homeopathic medicines actually produce results. Quantum physics may helop explain this in so far as electromagnetic energy contained in the remedies may influence the body on some level. Researchers in the area of physical chemistry have put forward a proposal called the ”memory of water” theory, whereby the structure of the water-alcohol solution is somehow changed by the remedy during the process of dilution and retains this structure even after none of the actual substance remains.

In terms of some of the remedies used, an example is the Phytolacca berry which may be chosen if the patient’s weight gain is as a result of a sluggish metabolism. Or alternatively Fucus Vesiculosus could be selected when the patient has thyroid problem. This remedy also helps with constipation and it is helpful in burning fat. Calcarea carbonicum may be chosen if the patient is of fair complexion and is fatty and flabby. In Homeopathy the choice of remedy relies on the complete symptom pattern of the patient.

Use arsenicum when you have symptoms of watery diarrhea, chills, nausea and vomiting; if you have feelings of restlessness, weakness, anxiety, and nervousness; and when you thirst for cold water. Use when symptoms worsen in the cold and late night hours, and improve with warmth, hot food and drink, and warm compresses.

Veratrum Album – made from white hellebore. Use when experiencing symptoms of both diarrhea and severe and frequent nausea and vomiting; if you have accompanying cold sweats, and coldness in the abdomen or forehead, and crave cold water; feel weakness and exhaustion. The opposite of arsenicum, use veratrum when symptoms feel worse with warmth.

Take 6C or 12C every two to three hours. Veratrum is helpful for food poisoning from botulism, bad meat, and discomfort from alcohol and tobacco.

Podophyllum - made from May Apple. Use when you have diarrhea only and no vomiting; when diarrhea is watery, explosive, foul spelling, and gurgling; when you feel exhausted and lethargic after repeated bouts of diarrhea; with headache, body ache, and cramps; after eating or drinking water worsens the symptoms.

Carbo Vegetabilis - made from charcoal. Use carbo vegetabilis when feeling bloated, full, gaseous, and flatulent; when belching relieves pressure and improves symptoms; with sweatiness, weakness, and exhaustion. Take 6C or 12C every two to three hours. Carbo vegetabilis is helpful after ingesting decayed food, milk, fats, and rich food.

Homeopathic Treatment For Chichen Pox

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Symptoms

Typically, chickenpox begins with a low fever, headache, rash, and a general feeling of sickness, or malaise. The rash, which usually covers the face, scalp, and trunk of the body, starts as red bumps but quickly develops into small blisters. The rash and the blisters are extremely itchy. As the disease progresses, the blisters break open and form scabs, which fall off after about one to two weeks. The incubation period—the time between initial infection and the first appearance of symptoms—is approximately two weeks.

Treatment

Antim tart., Rhus tox, Kali mur., Pulsatilla, Aconite, Ars-alb, Apis, Belladona, Sulphur etc are known to work in cases of chickenpox.

Conventional Treatment

Treatment of chickenpox is usually limited to bed rest, acetaminophen for relief of fever and discomfort, and measures that soothe the itching, including lukewarm baths and application of topical medicines such as calamine lotion. Excessive scratching can cause infection of blisters, which can lead to scarring. Acyclovir, an antiviral drug, is used to treat severe cases of chickenpox, particularly in patients with a weakened immune system.

Homeopathic Remedies For Chikungunya

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Symptoms

Symptoms of Chikungunya includes fever, debilitating arthralgia (joint pain), swelling of joints, stiffness of joints, myalgia (muscular pain), headache, fatigue (weakness), nausea, vomiting and rash.

The incubation period (time from infection to illness) can be 2-12 days, but is usually 3-7 days. “Silent” CHIKV infections (infections without illness) do occur; but how commonly this happens is not yet known.

Acute chikungunya fever typically lasts a few days to a couple of weeks, but some patients have prolonged fatigue lasting several weeks. Additionally, some patients have reported incapacitating joint pain, or arthritis which may last for weeks or months. No deaths, neuro-invasive cases, or hemorrhagic cases related to CHIKV infection have been conclusively documented in the scientific literature.

Treatment

Homeopathy has very effective treatment for Chikungunya. After diagnosis of Chikungunya, homeopathic treatment should be started as early as possible. Homeopathic treatment can also be given along with conventional treatment (allopathy) if desired. Conventional treatment consists of only symptomatic treatment of fever, stiffness, joint pain etc. of this viral illness, whereas homeopathic medicines give better and comparatively long lasting relief from the disease. Rhus Tox, Eupatorium Perf, Bryonia, Arnica are the few homeopathic remedies that help in Chikungunya but more accurate and effective remedy can be chosen by a homeopathic doctor according to clinical picture of that particular case. Homeopathy works effectively in all viral diseases. Homeopathic pills are simply chewed (dissolved) on tongue and are sweet in taste. Homeopathic medicines do not cause gastric irritation, are safe on kidneys and liver even when taken for long duration.

In epidemics, prevention of Chikungunya can be achieved by administering Homeopathic “Genus Epidemicus”. Genus Epidemicus is a homeopathic remedy that is chosen as a preventive remedy for that particular epidemic in that particular locality. Homeopathic medicines are equally effective for post-chikungunya complaints like weakness, stiffness in joints, muscles pain etc. Infected persons should be protected from further mosquito exposure (staying indoors and/or under a mosquito net during the first few days of illness) so that they can’t contribute to the transmission cycle.
