Friday, July 17th, 2015

ganglion cyst is a swelling that often appears on or around joints and tendons in the hand or foot. The size of the cyst can vary over time. It is most frequently located around the wrist and on the fingers.

Ganglion cysts arise from the capsule of a joint or the sheath of a tendon. They can be found at different places on the wrist. A ganglion cyst that grows on the top of the wrist is called a dorsal ganglion. Others are found on the underside of the wrist between the thumb and your pulse point, at the end joint of a finger, or at the base of a finger. Most of the time, these are harmless and will often disappear in time.

• Onset: insidious.
• Cystic swelling gradually appearing at back of wrist.
• Swelling causes mild discomfort during wrist movement.
• Other less common sites are- palm & dorsum of hand.

#Sulphur. [Sulph]
Gleet in catarrhal subjects will scarcely get well without this remedy. It is especially useful in maltreated cases where there is much irritation, soreness and burning of the parts. There is always a general depressed state of the health when this remedy is well indicated. The Nosode Medorrhinum is of importance here.

#Sepia. [Sep]
This remedy is useful in intractable cases where the discharge is milky and greenish and especially scanty, perhaps appearing only in the morning. Sepia is highly recommended by Jahr in this affection. Mercurius has greenish-yellow discharges, worse at night.

#Pulsatilla. [Puls]
This remedy suits gleet in phlegmatic and scrofulous constitutions, with a thick yellow or yellowish-green and bland discharge. Hydrastis. This remedy is required when there is a want of tone or debility of the mucous membrane with persistent discharge and no pain. The discharge is thick and somewhat tenacious.

#Natrum muriaticum. [Nat-m]
Chronic gonorrhoea or gleet, brought on by the abuse of nitrate of silver injections; the discharge is clear; this is a common condition and the remedy is most useful. One lasting persisting drop and cutting pain on urination are good symptoms. Kali iodatum. Franklin recommends this remedy in gleet, advising the 3X potency. Thuja corresponds especially to lingering cases of prostatic gleet with a thin yellow or greenish discharge. Nitric acid follows Thuja in these cases, especially where there are darting pains and condylomata. Nux vomica. Gleet in the characteristic Nux constitution, or where the complaint has been aggravated by excesses in diet and drink.

Homeopathy for BPH or Benign Prostate Hypertrophy

Friday, July 10th, 2015

As the name suggests, BPH is a benign hypertrophy of the prostate gland. The prostate is a small, muscular gland below the urinary bladder in males. The prostate produces most of the fluid in semen that allows sperm mobility during ejaculation. Benign prostatic hypertrophy, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) occurs usually after 50 years of age, when the cells of the prostate gland begin to multiply. These additional cells swell your prostate gland, which squeezes the urethra and restrict the flow of urine.

Signs & Symptoms

The stream of urine is poor

There is difficulty in initiating micturation (hesitancy)

There is difficulty in stopping it (terminal dribbling)

Recurrent haematuria (blood in urine) may occur

There may be aching pain in loins, sometimes aggravated by drinking

Recurrent urinary tract infections may occur

Homeopathy for BPH

Homeopathy offers very good treatment for BPH or benign prostate hypertrophy. Some of the medicines commonly used for this condition are thuja, ferrum-pic, conium, baryta-carb, copaiva, populus-t, calc-carb, sabal-ser, selenium etc.

Homeopathy for EPILEPSY

Wednesday, July 8th, 2015

Epilepsy is a disorder in which nerve cells of the brain from time to time release abnormal electrical impulses. These cause a temporary malfunction of the other nerve cells of the brain, resulting in alteration of, or complete loss of consciousness. There are several forms of epilepsy. Most people will have seen someone suffer a major epileptic seizure, suddenly losing consciousness, jerking the arms and legs, etc. But there are other types of epilepsy – for example, one common form of epilepsy in children merely consists of staring blankly and losing contact with the surroundings for a few seconds.

Homeopathy for Prostate Enlargement

Wednesday, July 8th, 2015

One of the hot spots in the body. It is reddish brown, size of an English walnut. It can disturb one’s sleep by requiring several trips to the bathroom each night or kill a man by producing uremic poisoning. In old age it can become a site for cancer too. The prostate is a gland which contributes greatly to one’s sexual life. It is a principal storage depot for the seminal fluid, without which chances of pregnancy will be about zero. At each ejaculation, testicles provide over 150-200 million sperms cells. The prostate produces a fluid that dilutes them and this fluid contains proteins, enzymes, fats and sugars to nourish the fragile sperm, alkalinity to overcome the deadly acidity of the female tract and a watery medium in which the sperm can swim towards female egg.

Theory for Prostate Enlargement

1. HORMONIC THEORY:  As age advances , male hormones diminish, while estrogen does not. Tissues are enlarged due to predominance of estrogenic hormone. This is involuntary hyperplasia like fibro adenoma of breast.

2. NEOPLASTIC THEORY: Benign neoplasm. It is composed of fibrous tissues, granular tissues and muscles and is known as fibro-myo-adenoma.

Sexual Effetcs of Prostrate Enlargement

URETHRA The portion of urethra lying above the prostate becomes elongated. Distortion of prostatic urethra .
BLADDER Musculature of bladder hypertrophies to overcome obstruction. Urine is stagnant and may form stones. Occasionally hematuria
URETER AND KIDNEY Pressure on ureteric orifice , gradual dilation of ureter, hydronephrosis, ascending infection, nephritis
SEXUAL ORGANS In early stages: increased sexual desireIn later stages: Impotence

Homeopathy for Enlarged Adenoids & Tonsils

Monday, July 6th, 2015

Adenoids is the name given to a lump of lymphoid tissue that sits between the tonsils, higher up in the back of the mouth. Adenoids trap germs that enter the body through the nose. This tissue cannot be seen without special instruments or x-rays, since it is hidden behind the roof of the mouth. It is located right behind the nose and if it is large enough, it can block air from flowing through the nose.

The adenoids become swollen and enlarged for just the same reasons as the tonsils become enlarged – infections, both viral and bacterial, as well as allergic stimuli. If the adenoids are quite large, they can cause significant respiratory obstruction, with resultant chronic mouth breathing and snoring. This mouth breathing can cause permanent changes in the facial shape – “adenoidal facies” with elongation of the face and an open-mouthed, slack-jaw appearance. Nighttime respiratory obstruction, with snoring and even sleep apnea can cause significant load upon the right side of the heart. Other problems caused by chronic adenoid hypertrophy include blockage of the eustachian tubes and chronic ear disease and hearing loss.

  • breathing through the mouth
  • snoring
  • stopped breathing for a few seconds during sleep (sleep apnea)
  • frequent “sinus” symptoms
  • ongoing ear middle ear infections or middle ear fluid in a school-aged child

Homeopathy for Enlarged Adenoids & Tonsils

Hydrastis is perfectly homoeopathic to the totality of the symptoms produced by enlarged adenoids, it has the yellow mucus and general lymphoid hypertrophy.

#Calcarea phosphorica [Calc.p]
It corresponds to the dyscrasia, which permits adenoid growths or tonsillar enlargement. Calcarea iodide may be used in cases which are febrile in nature.Baryta carbonica is also a useful remedy, especially in children who have recurring attacks of acute tonsillitis.

#Cistus Canadensis [Cist]
In scrofulous or arthritic individuals who have enlarged adenoids. There is extreme sensitiveness to cold air, this is characteristic. Sensation of heat and dryness in the throat so intense that the patient must drink to relieve. Cold air inhaled causes distress in the throat, the 6th potency seems to succeed the best. Cistus has a special affinity for the naso-pharynx.

#Tuberculinum [Tub]
Adenoids are greatly benefited and often times permanently cured by a weekly dose of Tuberculinum or preferably Bacillinum.

#Agraphis nutans [Agra]
Obstruction of the nostrils from adenoids. Throat deafness.Deafness and deaf-mutism, breathes with mouth ;open. It is essentially a catarrhal remedy and acts specially on the glands connected with the nasal cavity, and its use generally avoids adenoid surgery.

Homeopathy for DROOLING (Ptyalism, Sialorrhea)

Saturday, July 4th, 2015

Saliva is flowing outside the mouth known as drooling. It is generally caused by excessive production of saliva, inability to retain or swallow.

It can be defined as salivary incontinence or the spillage of saliva over the lower lip.  It reflects a disturbance of the oral phase of deglutition which is associated with inefficient, uncoordinated swallowing and poorly synchronized lip closure.  It is frequently associated with an abnormal increase in tone of the muscles that open the mouth.  Drooling patients have difficulty managing normal salivary flow; sialorrhea, increase in salivary flow which can lead to drooling. Drooling itself is a symptom not a disease.

Saliva is the watery and usually a frothy substance produced in mouth; which is secreted by salivary gland. It is stimulated by both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Approximately 700ml/ day saliva produced. It contains 98% water and electrolyte, mucus, antibacterial compounds and various enzymes. The functions of saliva include lubrication and moistening of food in order to facilitate mastication, protection of the mucosa from desiccation, prevention of dental caries, and a medium by which lysozyme, secretary IgA and salivary peroxidase are delivered to the oral cavity.

 What causes Drooling?

§  In infants and toddlers it may be normal and is unlikely to be a sign of either disease or any complications, it may be associated with teething.

§  It may be exacerbated by upper respiratory infections and nasal allergies

§  If it is associate with fever or trouble in swallowing may be sign of retropharyngeal abscess, peritonsillar abcesses, tonsillitis, Mononucleosis, sore throat, parkinson’s disease.

§  Sudden onset of drooling indicates poisoning, reaction to snake or insect venom.

  • Conditions where saliva secretion is increased; Stomatitis, Chronic gastritis, Pregnancy, Maniacs, Hydrophobia, Drugs -mercury, iodide, bitters, Sinemet, Sinemet CR, Lodosyn, Levodopa, Dopar, etc.
  • Excessive capsaicin can cause drooling.

Homeopathy for DIPHTHERIA

Friday, July 3rd, 2015

Diphtheria is an acute bacterial disease that usually affects the tonsils, throat, nose and/or skin. It is passed from person to person by droplet transmission, usually by breathing in diphtheria bacteria after an infected person has coughed, sneezed or even laughed. It can also be spread by handling used tissues or by drinking from a glass used by an infected person.

In its early stages, diphtheria may be mistaken for a severe sore throat. Other symptoms include a low-grade fever and enlarged lymph nodes (swollen glands) located in the neck. Another presentation of diphtheria can be skin lesions that may be painful, red and swollen.

In more advanced stages, the patient may have difficulty breathing or swallowing, complain of double vision, have slurred speech, or even show signs of going into shock (pale, cold skin; rapid heartbeat; sweating; and an anxious appearance).

 Homeopathy for DIPHTHERIA

#Mercurius cyanatus. [Merc-cy]

#Diphtherinum. [Diph]

#Kali bichromicum. []
This remedy, which is perhaps more useful in the croupoid form of the disease, has marked symptoms. There is apt to be deep ulceration and a thick, tenacious exudation, often streaked with blood; the membrane is yellow looking and the cough is croupy and accompanied with pain in the chest. There is also swelling of the glands. The indication for Kali bichromicum may be chiefly summarized as follows:
1. The yellow-coated or dry, red tongue. 2. The tough, tenacious exudation. 3. Pain, extending to neck and shoulders.
These, and the fact that it is most useful in the later stage of the disease, when the line of demarcation has formed and the slough has commenced to separate, make the indication for the drug certain.

#Kali muriaticum. [Kali-m]
The indication for this remedy rest on a clinical basis, and it is one of the legacies of Schuessler to Homoeopathy. That it is a most excellent remedy and deserving of a high place in the treatment of diphtheria cannot be doubted by anyone who has ever tried it. The only indication we have are pain on swallowing, and white deposit in throat; but numerous well-marked cases of the disease have been treated with the remedy and symptoms like prostration, thick exudation over the tonsils, and entire soft palate, foetid breath, etc., have entirely disappeared. Perphaps like Kali bichromicum, it will be found to be better adapted to the croupoid form. Kali chloratum or the chlorate of potash is useful in diphtheria when gangrenous spots appear; ulcers with foul secretions and offensive discharges. It is one of the best remedies to prevent extension to the nasal mucous membrane.

#Kali permanganicum. [Kali-p]
This is another of the potashes which has achieved some reputation in diphtheria, where there is ulceration, gangrenous suppuration and foetid odor. It has been also been used as a local application, but like all local applications in constitutional disease it has done little, if any, good. The indication for its use are, throat swollen both inside and outside. The throat is oedematous and the membrane is horribly offensive; there is a thin discharge from the nose and a Lachesis difficulty of swallowing and regurgitation.

#Apis mellifica. [Apis]
Oedema stands first among the indications for this remedy. Stinging pains, and sore, blistered tongue are also characteristic. The throat has a glossy-red appearance as if varnished. Membrane forms on either tonsil and is grayish, dirty-looking and tough. Swallowing is most difficult owing to the oedema. The throat is swollen externally and there is much prostration, dry, hot skin and restlessness. Suppression of the urine is a complication that will call for Apis. Lac caninum has achieved some reputation in diphtheria; it has swollen both internally and outside as under Apis; and it has a restlessness something like Arsenic and Rhus, not a nervous fidgetness as under Apis. Scanty urine in diphtheria is a symptoms found under Apis as well as under Cantharis and Lac caninum.

#Lachesis. [Lach]
Great sensitiveness of the throat will always bring it into mind. Further indications are the appearance of the disease first on the left side of the throat, spreading to the right. Extremely painful and difficult swallowing, violent prostration and great foetor, the patient sleeping into an aggravation of all symptoms. The dyspnoea is so marked that the patient must sit up to breathe. Gangrenous tendency and specific condition. There is a purplish throat and much swelling and infiltration externally, here resembling Apis. Very similar symptoms are obtained under two other of the snake poisons, namely, Crotalus and Naja. A characteristic symptom of Lachesis is that the throat feels worse from empty swallowing. Carbolic acid. Low fever, no pain, great accumulation of exudate, foetid odor, prostration, violent fever, headache, thready pulse, nausea and weakness. The septicaemia of the disease is met by this remedy. The secret of antitoxin success in diphtheria may be due to this remedy. Most antitoxin is 3X potencies of these preparations. Baptisia is a powerful agent to counteract septic poisoning, foetid, feverish breath, dark red fauces, swelling of glands, aching of back, body and limbs as if pounded, face dark, flushed like the intoxication of a poison, tongue dry and red, typhoid conditions. Rhus. Putrid as in Baptisia, swelling glands, tongue dry or cracked.

#Lycopodium. [Lyco]
Lycopodium bears the same relation to the right side of the throat that Lachesis does to the left. There is stoppage of the nose, with inability to breathe through it; the disease begins on the right side, or is worse on that side. Like Lachesis, the patient is worse after the sleep and after swallowing drinks, especially cold ones. Especially is to be remembered the Lycopodium aggravation from 4 to 8 P.M. Fan like motions of the wings of the nose is also an indication. The symptoms of Lycopodium are quite clear, but the remedy is less often indicated than some of the others.

Homeopathy medicine for the cure of dentition of teething troubles

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

The development and cutting of teeth; teething.
At the time of teething, general irritation, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fever, sleeplessness and weight loss, etc. are the usual complaints of a child.

 Homeopathy treatment

#Chamomilla. [Cham]
This remedy is almost specific for the lesser ailments of dentition. Many physicians, however, express themselves as finding it of doubtful value. It is however, a most useful remedy, and those who use it in the lower potencies are the only ones who are disappointed in its use. It is a remedy which acts far better in the 6th or 12th potencies than in strengths below these. Its symptoms are well known; child is peevish and fretful, one cheek is red, the other pale. The head and scalp are bathed in sweat, and a greenish, offensive diarrhea is present. The mental condition of the child will invariably indicate the drug. The gums are red and tender. Ferrum phosphoricum especially useful when the respiratory tract becomes involved, with rapid breathing, hoarseness, cough dry and hard and patient very restless. Persistent diarrhea, as a result of teething, may indicate Ferrum in some of its forms. Agaricus IX and 2X is a most useful remedy for simple irritability, fretfulness and restlessness of teething children; itching is an additional symptom.

#Belladonna. [Bell]
This remedy suits both the febrile condition of Aconite and nervous erethism of Chamomilla. It is especially indicated by its cerebral hyperaemia, high fever and tendency to convulsions , violent starting and jumping , red face and other Belladonna symptoms. Terebinth. Raue, quoting from Cooper, recommends this remedy for teething , with restless at night, distension of the gums and symptoms of irritation. It acts promptly.

#Calcarea carbonica. [Calc]
Slowness in teething, with convulsions, or opposite state, where children teethe too rapidly, may indicate it. In backward dentition, where the gums are pale and shiny and teeth a long time in coming through, it is indicated in those children who present Calcarea characteristics.

#Calcarea phosphorica [Calc-p]
suits especially emaciated, rachitic children with open fontanelles, who are slow in teething and whose teeth decay rapidly. There is an actual deficiency of bone tissue. During the period of dentition an occasional dose of Calcarea phosphorica will often prevent all troubles. I use the 6X trituration. A diarrhea may accompany.

#Kreosote .[Kreos]
An excellent teething remedy; dentition is very painful and difficult, the gums are spongy and painful, the child worries and tosses all night and the night, when erupted, show marks of decay on them. There is either constipation or undigested diarrhoeic stools. Zincum. The child is drowsy, has a pale face and brain symptoms occur during the process of dentition.
